Safer trucks....like the Mitsubishi Fuso SafeDrive artic..and that's yer lot for tonight says Biglorryblog

You know I do wonder if it's me...or them. Trolling through the Daimler media website (restricted to journos naturally) I find this picture from September 2008 (so it's current) of this Mitsubishi Fuso 'Safe Drive' safety truck. Can Biglorryblog tell you any more about it? He can not because I couldn't find the words to go with the picture... You do have to wonder sometimes if manufacturers actually want to tell anyone about their new goodies... I use the search facility and get nowhere. Ah well. Make do with this picture and I'll tell you all about with when the 'terrible twins' at Merc's Milton Keynes CV press ofice answer my e-mail. Now click through here for a tale of stomach churning terror.....involving me, a 12m coach and a half-eaten wurst...

Meanwhile, in case your wondering, the truck has been photographed at the small test track at the Mercedes plant (can't recall whether it's at Worth or the engine plant Gaggenau.. Anyone know?). What I CAN say is that banking is all but vertical and the demo driver who usually shows journos around the plant and test track takes great delight in going around the banking at full chat in a 12m coach! It's a very disconcerting feeling to be 90 degrees from horizontal (and I mean that) as he tools round the 360 degree banking turn at 100km/h.... Ooh..errr, it's making me sick again just to think about it....

Anyroadup that's yer lot for tonight, thanks to all my regulars who posted during the weekend and "Have a good week till next week" (and for a pie, who used to close off his late afternoon slot in ITV's "World of Sport" with that particular phrase...?)

That's a bit of a conincidence. I have a copy of the Daimler Trucks CD from IAA and whilst admiring the nice pictures on it, and especially the Fuso Safety Truck, I too was surprised at the lack of actual information. Some of the vehicles are not even thoroughly identified. Very odd...........

"World of Sport" now those were the days when wrestling was a sport! Was it Dickie Davies?

The track with the awesome near-vertical banking is at Mercedes' technical centre at Sindelfingen.
There was a splendid Russell Brockbank cartoon about it, as I recall.
