Biglorryblog's 'World Heavyweight Champion' Dennis Child---who is general manager at ROTRAN Multi-Axle, the South African 'extreme' heavy haulage specialists---has been on his hols and tells me: "Hi Brian, Found this on the road whilst travelling on leave."

And Dennis concludes by saying; "May I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2009." And the same compliments of the season to you Dennis--I'm sure it will be a little less chilly where you are! And thanks for all the great stuff sent to Biglorryblog and T&D throughout 2008!

And in case you're wondering what's inside the box I can tell you it's a 128-ton Siemens stator....whetever one of those is. Can anyone out there help amend BLB's ignorance of power transmission equipment? And click through here for one more shot of the mighty V8 4860 Actros eight-wheeler.

Looks to me like a Titan conversion although I can't spot a Titan badge on it..so maybe it's one from Wurth?

Hi

A Stator is a huge magnet. Imagine a Scalextric motor in reverse (ie a generator rather than motor) and multiply the size (quite a bit).

To add to Tim's comment: The stator is the outer set of magnets in an electric motor or generator, in which the rotor (the inner set of magnets) rotates. I'm not sure if the words were invented at the same time, or if "stator" was someone's pun on "rotor".

That's quite the trailer it's on, too!
