Word reaches Biglorryblog that drivers will soon have little excuse for speeding as the back ends of buses are to be fitted with signs that flash if the car behind is driving too fast or tailgating. This news comes to me via the green breakdown provider, the Environmental Transport Association (ETA). It seems that the Stagecoach buses will use the 'Tailguardian' system to establish whether the vehicle behind is breaking the 'two-second distance rule' and if they are too close, an illuminated sign reminds them of the speed limit on that particular road. How's that for a cracking idea...? (Don't all post a comment at once please.)
Director at the ETA, Andrew Davis tells Biglorryblog: "Overtaking large vehicles can be treacherous, so the back end of a bus is an ideal place to remind drivers if they are speeding or tailgating". And just in case you were wondering the ETA is a not-for-profit breakdown organisation which as well as encouraging responsible driving to reduce carbon also campaigns for sustainable transport.
Actually I'd be just as likely to slow down if I found myself approaching the back of this particular bus..and yes I HAD noticed the 'unfortunate' positioning of the exhaust pipe... And I promise never to drive fast in Hampshire either.

When I was an impressionable youngster, my ex-WW2 veteran grandfather gave me some sound advice. "Beware of tail-gunners, my boy" quoth he. And said advice would appear to be valid to this very day.
"Bandits at six o'clock, chaps."
Tally ho!
presumably it wont be able to signal when the bus is doing 8mph on a clear road after pulling out and cutting everyone else up!
