While sampling Land Rover's Battersea off-road course (see below), we spotted this truck across the fence. One of BLB's guaranteed non-fattening virtual pies to anyone who can identify it.

Leyland Hippo
A Celtech tanker?
http://www.celtech.pl/en/produkt1.htm
Looks like an ex-services, A.E.C. Mammoth Major 10 ton , 6x4, 3,000 gallon aircraft refueller with Gloster-Saro bodywork. Ergomatic cab , built from 1968,on and registered with the RAF numbering system under the 'AD' sequence.
Low flat profile makes it air-transportable in the bigger aircraft, Galaxy/Hercules.
I think!!

AEC Mammoth Major 6. An ex - RAF re-fueler.
My gut feeling is that it's an AEC - perhaps a Mammoth Major six wheeler. Not sure if they did Marshal refuellers.
Leyland Bison aircraft refueller with Edgehill or Thompson tank? Failing that and to cover all bases, S26 or 24.27 Scammell. Showing I really dont know what I'm on about and the Cambridge Diet Pie will remain in Blighty.
Got to be an AEC! More specifically, a Mammoth Major 6 3,000 gallon aircraft refueller, formerly of the RAF. Refuelling equipment by Gloster Saro.
As it will soon be Christmas, how about a virtual mince pie?
Hi Colin
My bet is that it's an ex MOD Ergomatic AEC Marshall. Steak & Guinness pie please.
Whats the use of posting a comment anymore if it takes so long to appear...
The thing I liked about this blog was that the articles and comments were so now/current... bad move.
This is an ex RAF AEC Mammoth Major 3000 gallon aircraft refueller (AS correctly stated by Hoover) (I have one under restoration). Designed to be air transportable in C130 aircraft or similar.
