Here' Dai...it's not straight boyo!" This rather splendid pole dancer is just one of a trio of specialised Mercedes-Benz Econics helping to keep traffic moving safely and smoothly along some of North Wales' busiest routes, including the A55 and A494 trunk roads. The triplets are employed by Flintshire County Council, the principal contractor for the North East Wales Trunk Roads Agency (NEWTRA), and the provider of traffic management and safety infrastructure service on local and national trunk roads.

"It's getting straighter Dai bach...keep it going." According to the PR blurb supplied to Biglorryblog: "The Econic's spacious and flat-floored low-entry cab makes it ideal for a range of applications that require operatives to board and alight the truck repeatedly. Flintshire's first Econic was a 26-tonne 2629LL model, with a 'cone' body by Stag Bodies--thanks to a low-level deck crew members can lay cones while the truck is moving, while an intercom system that allows them to talk to the driver--preseumably along the lines of: "Oii...hold on! One's just fallen over..." Now click through here for more....And is an Eastern European on a pogo stick a bouncing Czech?  Oh well, please yerselves....

I understand that Council Chiefs were so impressed with their first Econic, that they've now bought two more including this 18-tonne 1824LL dedicated street lighting vehicle. It is fitted with cable-pulling equipment and a specialised Kinshofer hydraulic grab for lifting street light columns, and is used to install and repair lighting along the A55. And the second, another 26-tonne Econic 2629LL. is a 'barrier rig'. Its Massey Truck Engineering body carries compressed air-powered hammers capable of driving in new posts that support safety barriers, as well as a Maxiscan telescopic mast, with floodlights for working at night. There's tidy!
