While the UK's Department for Transport continues to dither over Longer Heavier Vehicle and to tease us with vague suggestions over the likelihood of longer semi-trailers the Czech Republic has granted waivers for extended 36 pallet capacity 14.9m long semi-trailers like the Kögel Big-MAXX. So naturally Biglorryblog is interested to hear that Kögel has delivered its first Big-MAXX Cool extended refrigerated semi-trailers to the Czech Republic. The 14.9m reefer trailers are going to the DELIMAX company in Hodonín, which is using the Big-MAXX Cool to distribute its own products to food store chains in the Czech Republic. The manufacturer of fish products and other foodstuffs has already been a Kögel customer for more than ten years and possesses a fleet totalling 30 refrigerated articulated trailers. Now click through here to find out why DELIMAX wanted longer trailers...

"Thanks to the three additional pallet bays in the Big-MAXX Cool, we will be able to reduce the costs per transported pallet considerably", DELIMAX fleet manager and managing director Jan  tells Biglorryblog. "We are expecting to see an improvement of about 5% in our transport efficiency. At the same time we will reduce CO2 emissions and thus protect our environment."

In the Czech Republic, domestic transport businesses are able to obtain permanent waivers for internal traffic using extended vehicles. It is therefore possible to operate the Kögel Big-MAXX for transportation within the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile in Germany, a large-scale trial with 300 such vehicles has already been running for almost three years. In an independent survey, the Institut für Kraftfahrwesen an der RWTH Aachen (ika, Institute for Automotive Engineering at the RWTH Aachen University) certified the extended trailer with unrestricted suitability for use on the European road network. The tests performed by scientists detected neither difficulties in the cornering characteristics, nor an increase in the road loading, nor any increased danger for other road users. ika considers the use of the Kögel Big-MAXX as making sense both from an economical and ecological point of view. Apart from the Czech Republic, the 14.90 metres long Kögel Big-MAXX can also be licensed for use in Sweden, Finland, Russia and Belarus.
