Just received a somewhat laconic e-mail from Rod Simmonds in New Zealand who has sent me these pictures and the comment: "Some alternatives to Kenworths..."

So for a pie you can tell me what they are? Easy, really.

Now click through here for one more look at that top quad quad tipper...

Definitely the 'Bulldog' breed...

i think that i recognise the bonneted yankee clipper with two red bulkers behind her!!!!!!!! the make and model look ...familiar to me... somehow?
The blue one is obviously a Superliner so presumably will have a Cummins Signature engine
Surely the Mack is a tri-quad if anything although I am not sure that term is ever used. A quad-quad in New Zealand is a 4-axle tractor unit hauling a 4-axle semi-trailer I believe Brian. Great photos as usual Rod.
You are right, Martin. As you say, the term tri-quad is not used and if it was it would refer to a 3-axle tractor with a quad semi-trailer to be consistent with a quad-quad. There is no real common abbreviation for this type of unit. If we were describing it it would be "a 3-axle (or 6-wheeler) truck with a 4-axle trailer" which is a bit long-winded. However the term "quad-quad truck 'n' trailer" is starting to get used a bit now to describe the very common 4-axle truck towing a 4-axle trailer and the artic version is sometimes called a "quad-quad semi".
Thanks Vic. It's good to get the terminology right!
