Dead Lizards, African heat, weird and wonderful big machines...it can only mean Jerry Burley and more tales from 'The Dark Continent'  "Brian," he says, "I thought you might like to see a recent, faintly-unusual arrival in the yard - you may recall me mentioning recently that something quite large was blocking it up at around the time the D400's pitched up (and they are not exactly Slimmer-of-the-Year contenders)." And you can see how full of various bits of kit the JB yard is from this 'helicopter' view.

"Other than the fact that after climbing up a 20ft water tank stand to get the aerial shot, I bloody nearly fell through the colonial era wriggly tin workshop roof, which was a tad rotten in places, not much comment needed here."

"I'm definitely getting too old for all this outward bound stuff now!" says  BLB's Good Man in Africa.'...

JB adds: "That's "Brown Shrek" OB in front of the appliance in the sideways-on shot, and he's big and people laugh at him, so you can see its a quite large unit (the appliance that is).Any guesses as to what it is (and not the XF and its Nooteboom hang-her-on)" Well if you were asking me I'd say an early model airport fire tender from a US manufacturer in Wisconsin...possibly in a range prior to its current 'Striker' range..but what does BLB know?

JBlizard3.jpg

Whatever is it it's a tight fit on there..although JB says he question is so easy: "..even my wife would probably be able to identify that! No, maybe not)." Ahhh JB but would she be able to identify the red truck behind it at the top right...for a pie what is it BLB anoraks?

JBlizard4.jpg

Anyway he bimbles on: "An extra-special, BLB-sanctioned 5ft long, sun-dried Monitor lizard, roadkill pie with blowfly garnish for the winner, hurrah! Selected personally by me and these pies don't come up for grabs that often, even in Africa. As you will, as ever I'm sure, believe.regards, JB." Great stuf (especially the lizard--which should make someone a lovely handbag..) anyroadup click through here for more...
