Intermodal Transport. A good example of road and rail in partnership reckons Biglorryblog...

Now I know I'm always banging on about closer co-operation between road and rail...but this wasn't quite what I had in mind...still it does mean you're not restricted to all those tiresome things like rails to get your train from A to B.

And it als means you can also have one of those splendid 8x4 Freightliner Argosys for a 'locomotive' too. (Presumably the coal goes in the sleeper box?) Meanwhile, I have Rod Simmonds in New Zealand to thank for this excellent example of intermodal transport....

But then some twit in the signal box forgets to change the signal and you're stuck there for half a day while he has his tea...typical!

AND you've got to wait while he opens the level crossing gates too....it would never happen in road transport now click through here for one more..

Smart rig either way...Cummins power under the hood..big bed behind. Just my kind of 'train' and thanks to Rod for this curio..

And finally...here's a picture to melt the heart of any old transport man...yes it's Rod's latest nipper. Obviously getting off to a cracking start 'toy-wise'! .

You just have to love 4-axle tractor units! They always look so 'balanced' somehow. And of course a 4-axle Argosy looks better than most.
