I'm obliged to both Barney (a Biglorryblog regular) and Gianenrico Griffini editor of Tuttotrasporti magazine in Italy http://www.tuttotrasporti.it/ for a) alerting me to these 'spy shots' of mystery test trucks and b) for allowing me to reproduce them---thanks Gianenrico! And thanks for the tip-off too Barney!

Both these pictures are on the Tuttotrasporti website though this one isn't helped by the fact the snapper got his camera strap in the way either....! Anyroadup they feature in the coming edition of Tuttotrasporti magazine and already they've created quite a stir in terms of prompting readers to suggest what they might be.  Barney tells me: "So far the guesses are new Daf XF, Man, Renault or a Scania. I think it is either the new Merc Actros or a MAN. What do you think? Throw it open to the Biglorrybloggers....regards Barney."
So what do you all think? Now click through here for more more.....

Meanwhile, I particularly like the 'dazzle camouflage' paint finish which reminds me of the way they used to try and break up the outline of wrships in WWII using similar paint schemes! Those black portins below the mirrors are either blacked in glass or dummy windows..can't quite figure out. What does Bigloryblog think? The wheel rings look familiar though not enough to put my fingr on it....not sure it's a Daf...indeed I'm not expecting to see a replacement for XF105 for quite a while. Which leaves Merc (possible) and Scania is supposed to be showing a new Euro-5 V8 later this year so maybe it goes with that. But given what's already appeared I'm tempted to say it's a Merc.

Looking at the shape of the wheel arches, placement of the indicator repeaters, and the main rear view mirrors, all of which are like the current model, I would have to say it's a new MAN. Happy to be proven wrong though!

Maybe it's just me being an ignorant Yank, but it certainly seems to have a fair bit of family resemblance to the Volvo FH that's pictured down the front page a bit.

Could only be that they've both got complex paint schemes that break up the shapes, though!

Hi, great trucks! My guesses are a MAN or a DAF, hard to tell. I saw spy photos of the Merc, and i don't think it looks like that. Scania always had a distinguished design, so in my opinion it's not a Scania neither. A single thing would tell that it's a DAF. MAN had a big windshield, and probably they will go with that on a new model too, and this one hasn't got a big windshield. But this is just my opinion, anyone else?

I think both these units would not be misplaced if they had a PEGASO badge on the front, they do look familiar.

The truck just has something Iveco about it, can't really put my finger on it.

one thing is for sure it has M.A.N. front axle like on new actros for 2010,dont know if M.A.N. would make new cab after 10 years

Definitely new actros after comparing to other pics its the same and you can see the round circle on the grille.

According to this months (May) Tuttotrasporti magazine on there website they say its a all new Volvo FH.(Although its all written in Italian)
I still don,t think its a volvo myself and would still go with the merc actros. They might have got more photos than what has been shown to make a better guess.

Hi Brian
I've just been on the Tuttotrasporti web site to see what these prototype trucks actually are,and from what I can make out
they seem to think its the all new Volvo FH for 2011/2012.I must say they don't look like a Volvo to me and I still think its more Mercedes Actros.
Regards
Barney
