The other day David Nash, PR supremo for Isuzu Trucks asked my why I didn't use more of his pictures on Biglorryblog---"Well you send me a decent selection", I replied "...and I'll think about it...!" And he has, and I think there are some crackers here starting with this night-time shot, which is beautifully lit with flash on the front of the cab--but still perfectly balanced with the natural street light to give it real 'atmosphere'. It was shot by Gary Rowlands, former marketing manager at Foden Trucks who developed a passion for photography into a full-time job. And you can find more of his work at www.garyrowlands.com

Here's a good example of having to come back with a shot---whatever the weather---and not only does this shot provide a perfectly adequate 'does what it says on the tin' shot of Stirling Council's artic waste collection and recycling mini-artic it can also be used as a future 'stock shot' for winter weather conditions. The snapper must have frozen his lens cap off on this!
.
And what am I always saying about showing a truck 'at work'. It's a delivery truck...so show it delivering something! Ideally to a pub which is where Biglorryblog obviously does a lot of his research....

And don't forget to get down low for that 'worm's eye' view, and using a touch of telephoto add an interesting shape in the foreground that draws you eye into the truck at the centre of the picture remember it's 'framing, framing, framing!' Last of all use a bit of dynamic tilt. And the result? A nice shot of Winn's N75 skip truck.
Now click through here for a couple more....

Here's how a slightly wide-angle shot can make a nice shape of the cab (which is white so not THAT interesting) but the shot works. Why? Because once again it's 'active' with the crane doing something. And perfect H&S 'compliance' with high-vis vest and hard hat for the driver....these little things count and it's amazing how many readers call in to say: "Why hasn't he got PPE kit on?!"

Last but not least--make use the of background! Metro newspaper delivery truck ties in perfectly with the sign above it....So there you have it, plenty of tips to taking good truck photos like the professionals...and only on Biglorryblog!
