
Word reaches Biglorryblog that AA has doubled the size of its Fuel Assist fleet having recently taken delivery of a further 20 vehicles equipped with a fuel retrieval system to come to the rescue of all those numbnuts who put the wrong fuel in their tank... DOH! Apparently it's not such an uncommon event as you'd think as I'm told that the AA's Fuel Assist service (which is available to both members and non-members) receives some 60,000 calls each year from people who've put the wrong fuel in their tank...
The new Fuel Assist vehicles, which are equipped with bespoke fuel retrieval kit provided by those chirpy folk at Whale Tankers, are capable of recovering 'contaminated' fuel from a vehicle's tank, which is then stored safely. The AA's wonderfully-named technical & training manager, Donald MacSporran tells Biglorryblog: "Based on the number of calls we continue to receive from members of the public who experience problems of incorrect fuelling, it became apparent that we needed to expand the size of the AA Fuel Assist fleet. The performance of the initial 20 Whale vehicles has been impressive, as has their input in helping deliver a system that is both intrinsically safe and which satisfies our demanding requirements, as well as those of the Health & Safety Executive and our insurers."
