Trucks in Laos working for Mammoet Logistics...so THAT's where all the old Leylands went says Biglorryblog!

Wakey Wakey... Rise and shine... It's your early monring pie quiz on Biglorryblog (or late evening if you're down under...) "Gents," writes Peter Hutchinson, "Thought you might like a couple of pictures for your Biglorryblog of the 'mixed fleet' used by Mammoet Logistics and their sub-contractors to service the Sepon Copper Mine in Laos. "Mixed Fleet" is a combination of Lao, Thai & Vietnamese registrated trucks with the 2 left hand and the extreme right hand vehicles carrying Vietnamese registration, the 2 Leyland Contractors (yes they are badged as Leyland) carry Lao registration with the remaining 2 being Thai. Generally the Thai trucks seen at site are a mixture of relatively new UD, Hino, Volvo, Mitsubishi/Fuso and Scania whereas the Lao and Vietnamese units tend to be of "old" North American designs." So forn that pie--give me the make/models in this line-up in the cirrect order.

When Mammoet were first awarded the contract 4 or 5 years ago the fleet was comprised almost entirely of Leyland Contractors - and even complete with a couple of tank transportation trailers - but over the last couple of years the fleet has been 'odernised'as shown in the 'Lime Truck' pcitured above..." Now click through here for more...

Peter says:"I had a close look at the Leylands and they're 'basic' - methinks they may have originated from the Indian Army. I'm in the Mining Industry but have more than a passing interest in trucks - particularly the "classic" variety - which probably results from my student days in the 70's in the UK when I used to hitchhike regularly to & from West Cumbria from Manchester... Regards, Peter Hutchinson.

Thanks. Just the sort of contribution that makes BLB compulsive viewing! As I have said before, we learn something new EVERY day.

The Contractors are most likely ex-IDF and were badged as Leylands due to political reasons (the split wheels are also a giveaway). Quite a few ex Israeli Leylands reached Laos / Burma - apparently 40 year old Israeli built Royal Tigers are still running in Rangoon, see here (scroll down for pics):

Perhaps the old beef wasn't that bad after all...
