Last post on Truckfest! Now regular Biglorryblog readers will recognise this as the mighty Iveco Strator - the bonneted behemoth that's made to special order by one of Iveco's Dutch dealers. We had one on the Truck & Driver stand last year and it's clearly prompted Iveco in the UK to join in the fun and ship in one for Truckfest 2009 all for themselves. And it certainly generated some interesty. Meanwhile, it's going to be hanging around in Blighty for a few more days yet and I intend to have a driver in it. And naturally I'll tell you all about it on BLB so stay tuned...!
Ahhh..now you're talking real CLASSIC trucks. Daf 3300 ATi... And for a pie... What did ATi stand for?
Wandering around the showground with Jerry Burley he mentioned he has one of these... (Though a tractor rather than - I assume - a drawbar rigid) Or is this a tractor?
Spotted this nice Volvo F88 290 being buffed up... Nice looking piece of kit.
How common were Chinese six tractors on ERF A Series? Perhaps Mr Tuck can offer an opinion...
From the sublime to the frankly bonkers... Seriously modified 'Hellboy' 4x4 pickup! Is it a Toyota?
And here's Mr Pink from Reservoir Dogs... Now click through here for more...
Overweight, overheight, and thankfully over here! Beautifully restored Transconti...
Leyland with the thruppenny bit cab. Weren't these also badged as BMCs?
OK it's Truckfest so you've got to have a T-Series Scania, especially if it's a Topline sleeper too... And with lake pipes...
So what's this little pickup when it's at home..apart from a smart little commercial?
And with this final what is it 'pie-quiz' that concludes BLB's photographic 'all-sorts' from Peterborough
G'day BLB:
3 comments on your Truckfest photos: (1) the brown Leyland van with the portholes on the cab front...I think came out originally as an Austin (maybe a Morris too). Correct me if I err.
(2) The Spital Bridge yellow pickup is a Ford, possibly late 40s into 50s. The van version was very popular in my youth with local butchers, bakers and candlestick makers. Seeing as the pickup is from Whitby, did it ever show up on 'Heartbeat'?.....Nay, lad!
(3)Finally, the Davis Bros Leyland reminds me of my dad's Maudslay which also had the small headlights (maybe a wartime thingy). My guess is it could even be pre-war vintage, or 1940s anyway.
Hi Brian, I seem to remember ATI standing for Advanced Turbo Intercooling but just how it was advanced - no idea. Whilst blogging, can you find a way to prevent back slurping of hot tea by warning us of when such gems as "You don't see many 60 year old beavers in this condition" are going to appear; fell off my chair, tea everywhere & the good mehmsahib rushing upstairs thought I'd had a seizure!
Brian,
You're right - N54 CAJ is a Toyota... it's a HiLux to be exact!
Remember Top Gear where they tried to kill one???
Joe
That Leyland Thruppenny-Bit was also badged as a BMC and a Morris and an Austin. They had to do something to try and sell them!
The little pick-up is a Ford (or Fordson sometimes) E83W, with the side-valve Ford 10 (Prefect) engine and a 3-speed gearbox and a top speed of 31mph.
Must be something about those clog wearing cowboys LOL We have those Iveco's standing out front of the dealers just looking for some lucky punter to sign up and go, a lot easier to look at than the first issue down under..I had to wonder why that Darth Vader hood with all the nice styling within the group??
the f88 in the above pic use to belong to danskins transport services of strathkinnes
