It's obviously the day for 'new handovers', on Biglorryblog! Anyroadup, there are Axors... And there there's the Axor 'X@, the special edition artic with all sorts of goodies and Somerset haulier JB Wheaton and Sons www.jbwheaton.co.uk has became one of the first operators in Britain to get its hands on one after having put one through tkis paces over an intensive 19-day trial. "We kept the Axor X moving pretty well non-stop, with plenty of trunking through the night," director Gary Wheaton tells Biglorryblog. "It proved to be fuel-efficient and popular with our drivers, which was no surprise given that it's so well appointed. All in all, we were very impressed." Now clck through here for more...

"We bought our first Mercedes truck six years ago and have not looked back since," continues Gart. "We've been very pleased with their running costs and reliability, while the pricing is always competitive and availability of spares good.
Not that it was a leap of faith as JB Wheaton runs several of its own 'regular' Axors although the "Brand X'' version incorporates a host of additional features, including a multi-adjustable air-sprung seat, a Bluetooth-enabled stereo and CD storage box, and a dash trimmed in high-quality brushed steel-effect trim, as well as an electric sunroof with tinted glass and sunscreen. What's more all Axor X tractors come with a PowerShift 12-speed automated transmission as standard fare...
Roughly half of JB Wheaton & Sons' Mercedes are the subject of four-year contract hire deals with the manufacturer's in-house commercial vehicle finance arm Mercedes-Benz CharterWay; the rest are outright purchases. "The decision as to which acquisition method we use depends on the divisional focus of the business at the time," explains Gary. This summer the firm will stand down a unit which has reached the end of its CharterWay contract, and replace it with a new Actros supplied by City West Commercials.
"As for City West," he adds, "these are still early days, of course, but they seem to be doing alright; the service so far has certainly been fine."
