Taking your pet Hyena for a walk... And what about a house-trained baboon...? And an overloaded land Rover too. It could only be Jerry Burley on Biglorryblog!

Yes it's time again for Biglorryblog's 'Good Man in Africa' to file his usual wacky tales from the Dark Continent... And he says: "Brian, the wildlife pix today come from our shy and retiring cousins across the continent in Nigeria, West Africa, and demonstrate how wild and vicious animals can become loving house pets, whilst still being used to extort cash from terrified passers-by."

Jerry adds: "This is a real 'OIA' - I think in UK you would be dressed up in one of those gimping, back-to-front white dinner jackets and sectioned for life for trying this. Take it from one who knows a hyena is not a lovely creature at the best of times (and one of these two clearly nips a bit too, as its heavily muzzled), but a baboon as a pet?! God, why would you? Have you ever seen, or smelled, what they leave behind at regular intervals? Different folks, different strokes..." Anyway click through here to find out the REAL reason why Jerry B has e-mailed me and it involves that popular 4x4 from Solihull...

"As you well know," continues JB, "I have soft spot for Long Repairs. I think its somewhere between the third and fourth toe on my left foot. The loopy quack here says he has some cream that will sort it out though, and a couple of other personal itches while he's at it too if I like, so don't fret. Help is at hand. So what do you think of this one then, caught on my phone as I disease-all'd up at a Shell station this fine African dawn, deep in the picturesque Kampala industrial area?"

"Anyway back to Solihull's (or Port Elizabeth, SA's perhaps) finest. I did a rough calc of the weight above the 'plimsoll' line of this creation, and if all fuel tanks are full, an estimate on the tent and garbage in the back, the Alcatraz-esque steel embellishers and a pleasingly bra-less Charlie Dimmock's gardening kit (clearly nicked from B and Q) 'strapped' - there we go again on bras - to the side, this must be 400kg extra. A Long Repair, if I recall correctly, should only have 70kg (two full metal jerrycans as a rule of thumb) on its roof rack or it becomes unstable, and that's on a good road, just like ours..."

JB concludes: "I'm not sure what the implied mission statement might be or how "Marvellous Marley" and "I'll Be Back" merge pictorially, but there we are. 10 out of 10 for effort with the extras catalogue though, you will agree. meanwhile, not only are the British Lions going to sort out Province today, but Uganda are playing a simply massive Tunisian side in their final World Cup home/away qualifying match this pm too. I sense a golden throat charmer or two may be temporarily borrowed on their way south this pm. Good show, what! Regards, JB."

I`ve seen simalar things in North Queensland, some of our southern counterparts believe that you must carry enough motion lotion for a 1000 odd kays, and that there clealy would be little chance of getting a tyre repaired in the same distance, the only spot to put all of that is on the roof, then wonder why the gutter breaks and the roof rack is left behind on a corregation.

WOW!!! They look very scary! The Hyena are really big. I thought they were a little bil smaller. between a cat and a dog...
