And they're off! Under a somewhat Sloe Black, Crow Black sky Andrew Cooper e-mails me to say: "Hi Brian, I had a fantastic Father's Day family fun day today at the 2009 Under Milk Wood road run.with big thanks to fellow blogger Ashley 'the Malteser' Lovering for the wonderful time enjoyed by all of the 170 plus starters at Bracelet Bay car park in the Mumbles.in these lean cost conscious times it's good to get out and enjoy yourself as I know we all did today. There was an impressive and varied line-up of trucks on parade ready to enjoy the 40-odd mile run from the Mumbles to renowned Welsh poet Dylan thomas' hometown Laurghne." And that's Andrew's recently-restored Project Peterbilt up front and Ashley's cracking (if I recall correctly) Austin van next to it. Now click through here for more!

Andrew continues: "As can be seen my Peterbilt was kindly invited as the lead vehicle, with the Commisioner of the South Wales Police [and who better to do it? - BLB] waving me,Harry and Nicola off at the start of the run.with just about every kind of vehicle on this run, from scooters to Scanias and everything else in between."

"This thoroughly enjoyable local event was certainly one to remember. I really liked the Octopus and drag that had that authentic real/working look to it. We (i.e. me and the Peterbilt) are 'resting' next weekend - but the weekend after we are heading for Ramsgate and the boat to Ostend where we will meet up with several good friends from the Kingdom of Belgium and have a jovial time at the 2009 Lar Truck Festival, but more of that next time."

And to finish here's a nice-looking Foden. Well done everyone and well doen Ashley on a fun-event.

Andrew,
You've done a bloody terrific job on your Pete - if you ever get to Australia, go have yourself a refreshing ale on me!
Joe
Ashley, and Andrew. That does look like a great day out, with some nicely turned out motors.
It brings back memories of Glyn Neath and Swansea outfits runnning up the heads of the valley's road with steel to the Midlands and beyond. There is something about old motors that
stirs emotions.
Ashley,do you remember a company from your area called Julian's frozen foods. They used to sell ex Walls ice cream and Birds Eye ridgids with fridges of various size.My father bought two blue and yellow. and one two tone green very similar to your Morris 1000 van. They were Commers with Perkins engines, but never seem to see any pictured at the events.
