There's clearly plenty more life in the Willeme truck thread that recently kicked off on Biglorryblog. John Shepherd has sent me this shot and e-mailed me to say: "Brian, here's another Willeme for the blog. This shot was taken in 2006 whilst working in Angola it was being used in Sonamets offshore fabrication yard in Lobito to move fabricated parts around the base." Thanks John...any more for any more?

Hi John,

Thanks for the great shot of the Willeme. And as Oliver famously quipped, "I'd like some more please!"

Any idea who the owner of the outfit was at that time, what trailer it pulled and what type of loads? Please enlighten us!

Many thanks, Martin P.

this is a Willème TG250 8x8

450 hp Cummins KTA50 V8 engine, Clark gearbox, Clark axles

delivered in 1978 to french company STAG (Societe des Transports Automobiles de Gennevilliers) in Argenteuil near Paris

initial license plate 1327 GJ 92

250 tons total gross vehicle weight

according to my info only 11 of these trucks were ever built by Willème PRP

the first batch of four, of which this truck is, were bought by french consortium Trans-Industrie for the transports of the second french nuclear program

each one of the companies STAG, Mayer, Dessirier H. Zucconi and Scales bought one truck and together they bought 2 16 axles platofrm trailers from Delattre to haul the big pieces for the nuclear power stations

greetings from Germany
Christian

Hi Martin
I worked on and off in Sonamets yard, which is basically owned by Sonangol the nationalised Angolan oil company, between 2005 and 2007 and the vehicle was based there all the time so i presume it was sonamets. It was usually hooked up to an 8 inline Nicolas i think. Didn,t really get to see it in action that much although saw it moving subsea manifolds around which are still quite impressive, of course i didn,t have a camera with me to catch it , typical! sorry can,t be of much more help but may be back down there later this year, so fore warned and fore armed!

Well done John. Thanks for the additional information. And if you do happen to catch the beast at work in Angola I really would be delighted to see a couple of photos. And I know that Christian would be happy too. Thanks again. Martin.
