Brian,
Quite common in France and usually carrying steel bar down both sides of the cab. Better than yards of rear overhang or propped up on the head board but I never worked out how they stopped it all sliding forward when they braked.
Best wishes,
Roy.

I understand tha these are called 'Island Cabs' and are fairly common in France and Switzerland. The cab conversion can be carried out on many makes of truck.

These trucks are pretty neat. I am only 16 years old and I know it may sound ambitious, but I hope that I can one day win this prestigious bike race. If you want to follow my journey to get there, just visit www.anyone1can1do1it.blogspot.com. Thanks for reading my comment.
