Tim Giles was of course correct with his identification of London's Smithfield Market. And his comments reminded me of this picture---sent to me originally by Ashley Coghill which neatly shows how trucks used to be parked in the 80s. When Biglorryblog was a young rosy-cheeked 'junior' photographer at Commercial Motor I just had cross the river, and drive up a side street near Ludgate Circus and there was Smithfield, one of the oldest markets in London. Ash's picture clearly shows how, from mid-afternoon onwards, reefer artics used to start arriving and park in a dogleg row to allow traffic to pass by on the streets---as Tim clearly mentioned. Those guys earned there money alright. Of course in those days the only 'foreigners' were Scots and Irish operators!
