Biglorryblog's military expert Vladimir Chekhuta has very kindly provided me with some more information (and pictures) on former Soviet bloc motors after having seen the pictures recently supplied by Massimo he says. "I'd like to correct a couple of suppositions the first posted up on the original blog truck is a BAZ-135 MBP with military system 'Loona' (Moon)."

"The second is BAZ-135 MBP with Transport Charge System"

This big BAZ looks like it could happily ford a small lake.....nwo click through here for more..

"The third photo posted up by Massimo was a GAZ-51" adds Vlad,"While photo number 4 is Gorkovsky Aytozavod (Gorky Autoplant) which was created in 30-th after license Ford.
the last photo is a Czech truck PRAHA." Vladimir explains: "BAZ stands for the Russian Braynsk Auto Zavod (Braynsk Auto Plant). In soviet times it was a part of ZIL works."

"However, since the 90s we also know it as BZKT. Now BAZ is main provider of heavy trucks for Russian army. These are some photos of old and modern trucks from Braynsk. Also there is a book here on the 55-years history of MZKT. There are more 1000 pictures in it! And it weighs about 2kg. Best regards Vladimir.

And for good luck...here's one with a crane fitted.

They certainly look 'fit for purpose' don't they?

This is my favourite kind of post!
