Road Rat in Canada has answered the call from Biglorryblog and with pcitures of what used to be thre World's Biggest Dump Truck - the mighty Terex Titan. Anyway he says "Hi Brian, just saw the Stobart photo and thought 'Damm, that photographer must be good!' Yes, I'm still here, but in a very hot 115 in Lodi, California."

"Here are some pictures of a 'small' tipper which I believe used to work the local mine in Sparwood, British Columbia before being presented to the nearby town. Oh, and before I forget. The website www.road-rat.co.uk will cease as of 13 September, as I cannot transfer it to a .CA until I have permanent residency status, and I can't afford to keep it running!

The 3,000hp Terex Titan (at that time Terex was part of GM) first appeared in 1974. It was built in GM's London, Ontario plant, and could haul a load of 320 tonnes within a 550-tonne GVW. Not only was it somewhat unusual being a six-wheeler it was also the biggest dump truck ever built. However, that accolade is now being fought over by Komatsu, Liebherr and of course Caterpillar.

It had a diesel electric drivetrain more commonly found in freight trains ands powering electric traction motors at each rear wheel. It had The Terex 40.00x57 tyres, was 20m and 7.0m tall.

Thanks to the wonderful Wikipedia I now now it first started work for Kaiser Steel in its iron mine in late 1974, hauling some three-and-a-half million tons of earth until late 1978 when it was trasferred to Kaiser Steel's Sparwood mine in Canada where it finished its working life under the ownership of Westar Mining in 1991. It was then put on public display (minus its engine) in Sparwood.

And in case you're interested the contenders for the 'World's Biggest Dump Truck' currently stand at the Caterpillar 797B, Liebherr T282B, and Komatsu 960E and I'll leave it up to you to decide which is the biggest!

How's the famous H&R transport treating you buddy?
