Biglorryblog's  'Man North 'o' the Border' John Henderson has resolved his computer problems and can now contributte as usual to BLB. He tells me: "I enjoyed The Brochure King's recent four page gem of an article in Truck & Driver and it led me to think about brochures and advertisements produced by haulage companies. I've picked up a few of these pamphlets in my travels over the years and I'd be interested to see if BLB's anorak army have acquired any similar examples. Starting in the south, a 1980s Motor Transport advert for Sayers Transport of Newbury, I visited their depot a couple of times in that decade and was always impressed by the standard of kit and paint finish. Are they still around? -They rarely, if ever ventured to Scotland, so I wouldn't know." yes sayers were certainly a VERY smart outfit. Now click through here for more...

"Up to Bob Tuck country now, " says John, "with a brochure for Gallagher Bros (Haulage) Ltd of Stanley, Co Durham. I think they were absorbed into another haulage concern not that long ago? -anyway over the years I always received a warm welcome there as a visiting enthusiast."

JH continues: "John Mitchell of Grangemouth are still very much in business today and this was their 1986 brochure cover featuring a rather special MAN. Fleet no 100 was the last of a 14 vehicle order from the Munich builder and in addition to the Roadhaus cab, metallic paint and a cherished reg. number finished the unit off nicely." Big Roadhaus was always a favourite of mine---BLB.

Now how about this one?! John concludes: "Last but not least up to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands and a striking contemporary brochure. Not many folk run pink, purple and white liveried trucks but Donald MacRitchie told me their smart, unusual colour scheme has actually attracted new business! Best regards,  John." Greats stuf JH love the psychadelic one! Groovy...

Sadly Sayers sold out to Derike the Dutch bulk haulier and eventually the name and the superb livery disappeared in the late 80's/early 90's.
The local Scania dealer is based in their old yard at Thatcham, some members of the family went into bulk grain haulage and I believe others were involved with the Wessex Recovery concern, but things might have changed again.
Before running Scanias, they ran AEC rigids and tractors and used lift-off Tamplin tipping bodies on flat trailers for transporting bulk grain, again always immaculate, come to think of it , has anyone still got a Tamplin lift off demountable tipping body ? Rgds Bob

As a retired ERF Dealer Sales Manager I remember as a young salesman continually calling on Sayers to always be told by Pip Sayers the only good thing to come out of Sandbach was the M6.One day out of the blue I received an order for one of the first ERF E6 4x2 rigids with Cummins 180 6 litre B series engine,Eaton 6 speed gearbox, curtainsider bodywork and rest cab,a full sleeper was too heavy.
As luck would have it they had a weight sensative job and the equivelent Scania was to heavy whatever they tried to do to lighten one.
Much to Pips surprise the vehicle performed well enough and of course was finished to their usual high standard.
Derike then took over and the fist vehicles they put in were surprisingly Sed Atk Strato's
