Biglorryblog is grateful to Craig Sheer (and congratulations to him and his missus on becoming the proud parents of a bouncing baby boy). Craig was with me on the recent Scania R-series launch and very kindly took a picture of this rather strange 4x4 we both spotted in the Swedish village of Trosa. So for a pie, what is it?

THE MISTERY SWEDISH 4X4 IS VOLVO C303

It's a Volvo L3314, also known as C202 or Laplander. It's nicknamed 'Valp' which means puppy, probably because it looks like one.

Dave Powell

This is a Volvo Laplander which was made mainly for military use between the 50s and about the 80s. There were 1.6 and 1.8 petrol versions and in its latter days the name was changed to C202 and production moved to Hungary. It was made as a van or pick up (both available with optional crewcabs). They were nicknamed Valpen (Swedish for puppy) due to their slightly odd looks and very good off road performance.

It is a Volvo L3314.
You can find more of it on Wikipedia - well, if you know exactly what is it, it is easy to dig out a Wikipedia page. 8-)

What you see on the pic' is a Volvo "Valp" (Puppie in english) Its a swedish military vehicle. It comes in many different setups but the bas is the 4wd volvo engine.
I think the military term for it is "Terrain vehicle 11"

It's also avaliable in a larger version with double rear axels. also known as "terrain vehicle 13"
