How's this for a loyal and trusty off-road servant? It's from Ray O'Halloran who says: "Here's a pic of our 1958 Nissan Patrol. It is one of 6 that came to Australia for military trials but was rejected in favour of Land Rover. It has a 6-cyl side-valve engine, 4-speed gearbox with creeper first gear (no low range) It is believed to be the only one still on the road in Australia." And in immacuklate condition too by the looks of iot Ray and thanks. Now click through here for something a tad more 'esoteric'.....

Ray continues: "Here's an addition to the 'BLB Materials Handling' section. It's a Hyster Timber Straddle Truck which I have just bought. I imagine it dates from the very early 50's and were used around the docks in Melbourne to deliver timber unloaded from ships to timber yards in outlying suburbs. I do not know much about the mechanical parts used, but they are possibly International Harvester, perhaps some-one else may know better or even have info on these vehicles? Ray."
There was a lot of political pressure to "Buy British" in those days so the Nissan may well have been a better vehicle than the Land Rover. Hopefully Deadly Dave is lost in the high country by now and I get away with making comments like that.
Not aware of any connection between IH and Hyster, in some areas eg mobile cranes they were selling a competing product.
