Biglorryblog's wandering reporter Nick Garlick has (I'm delighted to say) returned back to Blighty after his trip to far flung locations and he says: "Hi Brian, back safe and sound from Iran. What a great country the only downside was I couldn't get enough truck photos!! Not easy trying to get a coach to stop with 18 people who don't like trucks...!"
Nick adds: " I would definitely go back there again if I get the chance. Nearly finished the piece for T&D about my short time there. Here are a few pics for the blog. More to follow...regards, Nick." And click through here for ore from Nick including a most unusual 'Volvo'....
Long serving Iveco still at work...
Big bonneted Mack...
So is this really a Volvo? Or a bit of grille transplantation..?
Perchance, could that Yankee-looking Volvo be an old White? Given that Volvo picked up the remnants of said brand (=White-GMC), there's a certain logic to the transplant.
Ahh, the legendary Mack "R" model, the most profitable truck ever built. But I wouldn't it "big bonneted". I reserve that description for Mack RW (RWL/RWS) Super-Liners that do indeed have a large hood.
The third picture invokes a bit of irony, seeing a 1970s' vintage White "Road Commander" with the local installation of a Volvo grille.
The White Volvo at the bottom is a Road Commander that's had a face-transplant.
Things don't seem to have changed much in the Iranian trucking industry -- when I passed through there in 1967 there were many Macks and also most full-sized trucks rode on large diameter wheels -- 22's or parhaps even 24's. Looks like many in your pics are still into them.
