Believe or not this rather innocent, if not brightly-painted, artic is really rather special. 'How so Biglorryblog?' I hear you ask...well it's all to do with how quick you can stop, especially when you might not be paying attention. And if you click through here you'll find out for yourself what it's all about....

In case you don't know the bright orange Actros tractor is in fact the 10,000th Mercedes-Benz truck to be sold equipped with the German truck maket's 'Active Brake Assist' feature for emergency braking--but then you know all about it having recently seen my video clips on Biglorryblog! Here you see Hubert Troska, boss of Mercedes-Benz's trucks division on the right, handing over the anniversary Actros 1841 LS (and a special certificate), to Robert Gammisch, MD of 'Log-In' transport, one of the largest logistics operators in the Czech Republic, who incidentally tells me: "I'm convinced that safety systems make economic sense, too. Every accident puts human lives at risk, costs money and means lost revenue. With this in mind, we will continue to opt for safety features when ordering new vehicles."

Just in case you're wondering, "Active Brake Assist" was launched in 2006, since when it has proven its worth in a combined total of over a billion kilometres on the road. In addition to be available for Mercedes trucks you can also get it on your Mercedes-Benz and Setra coach. When the system detects the possible chance of an ooh-nasty rear-end collision Active Brake Assist initiates emergency braking automatically if the driver fails to react in time. Which let's face it is alot on the motorway...
