Thanks to my mate JC in Warwick BLB learns that the first Volvo FH16-700 in the UK or the Republic of Ireland has just entered service with McBurney Transport in Co. Antrim. Naturally the 6x2 tractor is now the flagship of the McBurney fleet on the full range of the company's delivery runs, working principally on the UK mainland. The handover was performed in person by Volvo Trucks Managing Director, Göran Nyberg, together with Volvo's Dealer Development Manager Joe Roddy and Dennison Commercials Sales Director Tom Gourley.

"We have been running Volvo for over forty years now," company founder and managing mirector, Norman McBurney tells me. "We like the current range and operate around 200 Volvo's. Dennison Commercials were holding an open day; we really liked the look of the FH16-700 and the additional horsepower, so we added it to an existing order for around 50 new FH XL's."

V700 MCB is a 6x2 pusher with a 4100mm wheelbase with batteries in the rear to cater the larger 700hp catalyst on the right hand side and provide a fuel volume of 700litres - 550 on the left and 150 litre on the right side. The FH16's D16G700 Euro-5 compliant engine develops 700hp 3150Nm of stump-pulling torque. . It also sports a Globetrotter XL cab with Volvo's Driving+ package including electronic climate control, high-level instrumentation and leather trim. The truck also carries Dynafleet 'Perform & Locate', offering online fuel, driver time and service interval monitoring, plus street-level mapping. While the majority of McBurney trucks bear the company's well-known yellow livery, V700MCB wears its own distinctive metallic black finish, complemented by Dura-Bright rims. It also joins an FH 80th anniversary truck also in service with its own unique Jubilee Argent metallic livery. The truck will be serviced at Dennison Commercials' at their Ballyclare Dealerpoint on a three-year repair and maintenance contract. "The support we've had from Dennison and Tom Gourley Sales Director has been great; Dennison have always given us excellent service," confirms Norman.
And in case you're wondering what kind of fuel consumption a Volvo FH16.700 6x2 delivers at 44-tonnes well tune in to next week's Commercial Motor for a full roadtest from guess who..? Yep yours truly. And believe me its taste for diesel will surprise you (pleasantly)
