Rufo has made a welcome retuirn to Biglorryblog to say: "Hi Brian, with regard to Gary Richard's blog on the Shay Gap Macks.Yes,there were definately three built in 1972.
Here is a better pic of one of them lifted off the cover of MTAs house magazine"The Bulldog Bulletin".I've often wondered over the years what had become of them.I thought they would probably have been made into washing machines by now. What of their semi trailers. Are they in the long grass there somewhere, too? Rufo."
One of the fella's that kept these goinf lives not far from my OCE in Rockhampton and recalls these trucks had issues and took some keeping on the road. Once the load was cut back to 75 ton from 100 things got better, one had an allison auto and other three 12 speed Mack, all up a great thing for Max of Mack Aust along with many other good ideas put together with a chalk stick and T sqaure
I believe these trucks are still at the same location. I read about them on Hanks or Bigmacktrucks.com. Apparently they are going to or have cannibalized them for their 80,000Lb rears for other trucks they are building. I hope they don't send the rest to the scrap heap.
