The much-beloved 'Old Vic' Hungerford must think I'm neglecting him (or else have nothing better to do than grumble about his preferred choice of gearbox) Well I owe him an apology for I've been sitting on this curio for far too long...Vic e-mails me to say: "Brian, I remember you commenting a little while ago on the size of the radiator grille on a Ford Loosely-Built, well how about this one?!" How about it indeed and click through here for more big-nose beauties!
Vic continues: I've been on the tallow run for a couple of days which makes a change from carting wine. After picking up one of the loads from the works which are almost next door to Rod's house I took it to the terminal at the Auckland Port. I had just parked up ready to unload when this other tanker parked up beside me. It has a Cummins 444 (Triple 4) engine and you could probably guess who made the gearbox. No doubt about the make of the truck with that huge name plate on the grille, but does anyone (apart from the Aussies and Kiwis) know the model name and number? Cheers, Vic." Well I don't (so no change there) but maybe the rest of the anorak army does....and delighted to see Vic's faithful Inter sneaking into the shot on the right....

Meanwhile, how about this for a big nose eh? (The TRUCK not the girl silly!) And why hasn't anyone come back to me with pictures of drivers in white boiler suits?
My guess is that it's an International Transtar 4870?
that's a Transtar (might be the 4670). this model was an exclusive for the Au/NZ market, being a modified version of the US product. CAT engines were also a popular fitment.
i'm always amused by the ways vic sneaks in his own inter (and an immaculate one at that) into his shots.
A pie for that man! Well done Riyadh, you are exactly right, a Transtar 4670 it is.
