Behold 'The Beast'! Bob 'Friar' Tuck writes to say: "Brian, as one of the biggest names on the UK logistics scene, I think most of your Biglorryblog readers will be aware of the operations of WH Malcolm."

"However, unless you know your way round Scotland's Central Belt, you may not be aware of how big their contracting division is. And what sort of vehicles are used for that." Now click through here to discover why they don't share the same classic two-tone blue livery as their stablemates!

Bob continues: "It seems that Andrew Malcolm decided to change to these distinctive colours (in contrast to their normal blue livery) after making a sales pitch to a prospective customer. When he said all the logistics vehicles were regularly washed as appearance was important, the customer apparently said he'd just seen one of their tippers which was filthy."

"That remark made Andrew realise he'd have to make the distinction between their two divisions more apparent and he began repainting the tippers etc. His father - Donald - didn't agree and there was hell on, apparently, but Andrew stuck his ground and the rest is history, as they say. And what an interesting history the Malcolms have...! Bob"

And while Mr Tuck is too modest to mention it I can heartily recommend his own book on W.H. Malcolm 'Donald Malcolm - The Driving Force' - which is still available direct from the company. It's a cracking read and full of fascinating facts about ow the company started and grew--plus some super pictures as well.
