Les Freathy has e-mailed this to me and to say: "Brian, somthing a little different for the blog and one for Scammell fans, to my knowledge this showman's truck photo was taken in the early 1980s, cheers Les." I wonder if Bob Tuck knows anything about this?

Scammell must have been the most versatile wagon / lorry / truck builder ever to exist, I jest not. They made everything from little Mechanical Horse and Scarab three wheelers right up to the strongest Constructor, Contractor and S24 heavy haulers - they were great. And of course, showmen loved them for their strength and longevity. Scammell built a phase of 17 (I think) very special Showtracs - just for showmen. The picture Les sent in might be one of them although I cannot see closely enough. First glance suggests it's a Showtrac look alike because if you have one of those 17 specials then you have something worth a bob or two. Although to me, all the Scammells which are left (Watford of course closed their doors in 1988) are worth something a bit more than the norm.
This Showtrac was on the rally scene in 2005 restored in the livery of Hibble & Mellors, a travelling fairground operating in Nottingham and the east midlands.
I thought that it was 18 showtracs built and only one scrapped. HTO221 is a genuine showtrac chassis no6114 and was new to Hibble & Mellors
