Last one for today. Ron Johl has given me the perfect excuse to return to the wonderful topic of Dennison trucks on Biglorryblog...especially as he's sent me this rather nice photo from the 2009 Dorset Fair  which you can see bigger using 'Expando-Vision' (just click on it). "Hello Brian," he says."The 1970 Dennison....the only information was in the programme, 'manufactured in Dublin. About 250 were built between 1978-82 this one was restored in 2005-6.'."  Well I can tell you Ron that they made tractors and eight-leggers primarily with a 265 Rolls, Fuller box and Rockwell back axles." Commercial Motor roadtested both the tractor and 8x4. And that's where I met Robert Dennison from the Dennison family which still makes trailers. now click through here for more

They made 6x2s too...this one went to Tyson H Buridge and I recall that Blackpool Van Transport had some too. The cab was courtesy of Sisu..and if anyone else has some Dennison shots I'd be delighted to post them up....

Here's the cab...a bit spartan but not a bad sleeper for its time. Meanwhile, Ron also sent me this shot...which has nothing to do with Dennisons but it does come from the same Dorset Steam Fair.."...as there has been a few Macks  on BLB here's one from the Dorset fair 09 1957 237hp Thermodyne brought over from the USA in 2006. restored and back on the road in 2007.All the best, Ron."

I had thought that all the 6x2s were in-service conversions - the weights didn't go up until 1 May 1983, which was after production ended. wasn't it?

I can't help you with wether the 6x2s were conversions or not but many years ago either Truck & Driver or more likely Trucking International did an article on the Tyson Burridge Dennison and a high roofed imposter. The unit with a replica Dennison / Sisu cab was I think a Spanish built Dodge. Again in the past I think TI did an article on the BVT Dennisons.

They also made semi trailers.

Good Morning Brian,

Your photo of a Dennison truck in the livery of Tyson H. Burridge Ltd of Distington, Cumbria reminded me of one unusual event in 1981.

During that bad winter weather, I had occasion to go into the Hollies Cafe on the A5 at Cannock, where I found another of Tyson H. Burridge Ltd trucks. A Ford D. 2817 tractor unit with the original Cummins V8 engine removed and a Leyland 680 Power Plus 6 cylinder engine shoehorned in to replace it.

One third of the engine was hanging out the back of the cab, a la Gardner 240 style, which made it probably the only Rain cooled Diesel Engine in the World. To my regret, I never did photograph it.

Did anyone else record this unusual Conversion, (before the advent of EC Type Approval Certification in April 1982) as it was a unique truck ?

Kind Regards
Mike Ponsonby BA
