Do you have the National Geographic Channel? (No neither do I but I'm sure plenty of you within the Biglorryblog anorak army do---so this is definitely something to watch out for! Word reaches me from Selena Kentrotes, internal communications coordinator at the Volvo Group in Australia about a special episode of The National Geographic series called 'Break it Down'.  Selena says: "As you know care for the environment is practiced throughout all our business operations and this inspired National Geographic Television to visit Volvo Trucks in Sweden in September 2009, to shoot a documentary about the recycling of a cargo truck. After 100,000 miles of hauling cargo, Volvo's FH12 Globetrotter truck is headed for the scrap heap. Piece-by-piece, experts disassemble the truck so it can be recycled and reborn even bigger." And just so you know it appears on National Geographic on Tuesday 6th July 2010 at 8.30pm. I'm also grateful to Gazza Richards for tipping me off on this though he adds: "I expect this is a local [i.e. Aussie] presentation but might be a global release ???" Either way keep an eye out for it--the episode is called Mega Breakdown 3: Cargo Truck. All of which has nothing to do with the above picture  but there IS a common theme in terms of recycling and if you click through here you'll see what I mean....

Thanks to that slack-jawed idler Agent reg I learn that Premier recycling and waste management specialist for London and the south-east, Bywaters (Leyton), have taken their first Volvo RCV truck which has been put to work in Central and East London....and what a great series of shots to prove it too AR!

He goes on to tell me that operating over 20 RCV chassis on trade waste collections in London, Bywaters' Fleet Logistics Manager, Andy Crockett explains, "Much of our work is done in very restricted access locations like the City of London, so genuine low-entry cabs with their long front overhangs can be a problem and lead to damage on high kerbs and the like. We were looking for a cab that was between the low entry style and a regular haulage cab." The Volvo FE 6x2 with rear-steer and an Allison World Series automatic gearbox is fitted with an Incomol RCV body and it has been supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London's Enfield Dealerpoint, who were delighted to get this conquest deal in the face of strong competition.  Andy says that apart from the ride height, the cab was a deciding factor. "It came down to Volvo or Scania, but in the end we considered the compactness of the FE coupled with the interior space was a better option for our drivers and refuse collection teams. The fact that the Volvo FE came at a very competitive price was an added bonus," he says.

Meanwhile, even if you can';t see the National geograpghic show you can at least enjoy this smart new recycling Volvo!
