If it's Eddie Stobart..it's news! Here, exclusive to Biglorryblog, is a photo of the very first Eddie Stobart liveried fuel tanker which, I understand, will be used to not only carry fuel between Stobart depots but will also be used on third-party fuel distribution work. And who will Steady Eddie be hauling fuel for?  Good question...'cos so far the 'UK's favourite haulier' is keeping rather coy but if you check out www.roadtransport.com  daily you'll be sure to find out when the news breaks. And click through here for one more shot, And before ask....

Biglorryblog does not have a list of Eddie Stobart truck names nor any input as to how names are chosen. The only way to get a list is to join the Eddie Stobart fan club at http://www.clubstobart.co.uk/ !

Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs! Biglorryblog's 'Man North 'o' the Border' John Wood Henderson has some hot intelligence--to wit and viz he tells me: "Brian, news reaches us North O' the Border that ITV's longest running soap opera, Coronation Street will have an Eddie Stobart connection with its New Years Eve episode! And click through here tio find out more!!!! (And one of Newton & Ridley's very own delivery trucks..)

Stobart_Volvo_FH[1].JPG

And click through for Eddie Spotter news too!

Talk about putting two icons on the same truck! Bimbling along the M20 (where so many strange things happen) I find Bob the Builder has joined forces with 'Steady Eddie'  to save energy and www.projectrenovate.com  And why an Eddie lorry? Because Stobart is  amajor carrier for Knauf plaster board.

And the other reason for doing this is so I can once again tell Eddie spotters who read BLB:

"NO I DO NOT HAVE A LIST OF EDDIE STOBART NAMES AND NO I CAN'T GET YOUR KID'S NAME ON A TRUCK!"

If you want a list join the Eddie Stobart fan club and to find out how to join go to http://www.clubstobart.co.uk/

Last one from me for today...Road Rat is back from Canada where he recently gained his Canadian Truck Driver's Licence. Now he's back in the UK for a short while before finally taking the plunge and heading back to work for a Canadian trucking company --- and Biglorryblog wishes him the best. Until then he's back doing his shift as a Steady Eddie and he's sent me this shot and message: "Hi Brian, I think I've found the most unusual mode of transport that Stobarts have moved into. I know that there is a credit crunch on, and Stobarts are finding ways to save fuel etc, but I don't think horses is the answer. OK, you get free garden manure for the roses, as much as you can shovel, but even the 420 horses in my Swedish shed offer more that genuine raw horse power!.
And no before anyone asks I DON'T HAVE A NAMES LIST !!!! how many more times do we have to keep telling people. Regards, Road Rat." And you can see his website at www.road-rat.com.

Meanwhile for all of those people who DO want a list of Eddie names click through here....but here's two to be going on with....

rallystob1.jpg

Biglorryblog gathers that the Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Rally Team is tapping into the logistical know-how of team sponsors and 'Britain's Favourite Haulier' err...the Stobart Group as they transport their cars to the latest round of the FIA World Rally Championship in Cyprus.

rallystob2.jpg

The team, which is looking to maintain its excellent start to the 2009 season in Cyprus, has begun the process of transporting their Ford Focus RS WRC cars over 2000 miles to the event and on the way the transport crews will use not only roads but will also travel by train and ferry before flying back to their base in Cumbria to continue preparations for the race which starts on March 13. And just to show you what the Flying Stobbies can do here's a brief selection of them in action....

rallystob4.jpg

I'm told that the Stobart Group has used its involvement in the WRC to boost global promotion of the brand and since the Stobart team began its assault on the championship in 2006 the iconic Stobart livery has a legion of supporters all contributing to the company's growing profile and Superbrand status.

rallystob5.jpg

Moreover, and this is the really interesting bit, Eddie Stobart has just been ranked 23rd in the 'Business Superbrands Official Top 500 for 2009' outshining multi-national giants such as Mastercard, Virgin Atlantic and Vodafone and improving on its 59th place ranking in 2008.

rallystob6.jpg

It seems this is the fourth year in a row that Steady Eddie has achieved Business Superbrand status and is another accolade for the company which has already seen Stobart Motorsport collect the Rally Business of the Year gong at the Motorsport Industry Association awards in January in recognition of their success in maximising its investment in the World Rally Championship.

rallystob7.jpg

In fact you might say that with all that success they had trouble keeping their feet on the ground....

rallystob8.jpg

Meanwhile Stobart Group CEO Andrew Tinkler tells Biglorryblog: "It's fantastic that we can transfer our multimodal logistics experience from the business to the rally team and help save costs and reduce the amount of travel in getting the team to events.  I'm also very encouraged to see Eddie Stobart moving up the Superbrands rankings.  We place a lot of importance on brand recognition and the global exposure provided by our team in the World Rally Championship has contributed to our ongoing success in the Business Superbrands table."

And before you ask no I don't have a list of all the Eddie Stobart truck names but if you click through here you can find out how to get them...

Here's one to keep all the bus and coach anoraks happy... Biglorryblog has ski-mad, laid-back Scania PR man Phil Sampson to thank for the news that local soccer squad Kirkby Stephen Girls Under 12s will travel in style this coming Sunday (1 March, kick-off: 10:00am) when they head up the M6 to their away match at the Jubilee Fields ground in Kendal to face South Lakes Girls' League opponents Ibis U12's Junior Girls. How so Biglorryblog I hear you ask? Well because their charabanc for the day is none other than the official Irizar England football team coach!  The girls have been awarded the use of this prestigious vehicle for the day following Stobart Group employee Charles Bowman of Carlisle's win in a national competition organised by Stobart Group and Scania, the coach's manufacturer.

The competition, which was open to all Stobart Group employees, involved selecting an all-time Legends XI football team. (And click through to see what his squad was). As one of ten winners nationwide, Charles Bowman was invited to nominate any local youth soccer team (up to Under 14s) as the recipient of the main prize - the use of the England team coach, which is operated by Battersea-based Guideline Coaches London for a day.

Additionally, each member of the nominated team will receive a specially-commissioned kit, training top, kit bag and water bottle while their manager is rewarded with a weatherproof coat. The opponents will also receive training tops and water bottles as a memento of the day. As an added incentive for the Kirkby Stephens players, England team coach driver Joe Noctor will nominate and present a commemorative Stobart Scania 'Man of the Match' trophy. Errr... Shouldn't that be girl of the match Phil? Anyroadup click through here for that Legends XI and your own chance to participate in the fun...

Robboand truck.jpg

And who is this fine figure of a man standing in front of a 'Classic' Steady Eddie? Step forward Biglorryblog contributor and former Stobart wheelman Robbo who, unless I've got my wires crossed is now happily retired for this was taken back in 10th December 1999. Robbo explains: "Taken alongside the Kingstown depot--my 65th birthday was on the 9th but I insisted tipping (Dundee) and reloading (Glasgow) ready for the next driver---it's called dedication!"  I'll say, meanwhile Robbo goes on to add: "If I look a bit untidy don't forget I'd been away three weeks!" Untidy Robbo--you look immaculate! And in case you were wondering his Daf 95.369 Ati drawbar was called Sarah Elizabeth. Thanks for the meories Robbo and for some real Eddie news click through here....

Stobart Iveco.jpg

Now here's an ancient 'Stobbie' to start the day with...I wonder when this was taken? Anyroadup word reaches Biglorryblog that this Thursday (19th Feb) on ITV4 at 8:pm you can see 'Eddie Stobart: Smart Truckers' which I am told, via the website of The Cumberland News,"...is a TV programme that goes behind the scenes of trucking giant Eddie Stobart on national TV.The show depicts the fascinating world of high-pressure commerce as the business partners deal with a whirlwind of tough challenges..."

lostobby%20line-up.jpg

"What you see is what you get" says Andrew Tinkler who, I'm told, tells how he started life with a £500 van and now travels by private jet (well don't we all?) "I started out with £500" he tells The Cumberland News "...and everybody else out there has the same opportunity. We are normal lads who still remember where our roots are. I would still go back there tomorrow," he says. And for what it's worth the show is narrated by Phoenix Nights star Paddy McGuinness

Well be that as it may, nothing quite divides the readership of Biglorryblog as Steady Eddie...you either love him...or...err...you don't. Either way for all those people who keep asking me for a full list of his trucks' names, and whteher they can name one of the Eddie trucks after their wife/daughter/hamster the answer is I DON'T HAVE THE LIST. Indeed, the only way to get it is to join the Eddie Stobart fan club---however, if you click through here you'll find out how.to do it....t

stobbie.jpg

Biglorryblog has that young whipper snapper Dominic Perry (deputy editor of Motor Transport)to thank for swending me this link to the AST SDigns website. Why? because if you click on this link you'll  find a nice little video clip which shows how they 'wrap' an Eddie Stobart truck with decals to give it its final livery...http://www.astsigns.co.uk/index.php

Stobbie dazey.jpg

I just wonder if the name is a decal..or whether it's put on specially by a sign-writer. Anyone know (anyone care?) Now click through here for one more Stobbie...

Eddie spotting in the mid 1990s

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

I was searching through my collection of old press pictures today, and came across these Eddie Stobart pictures from the mid 1990s. Although the photos are only 13 or 14 years old, it's incredible how dated the trucks look today.

Jeannie is one of only 2 trucks on this blog that are still working for a living today. The MAN first went on the road in July 1995.

Veronique, an ERF EC10, was last taxed in 2004.

As a professional blogger I am often asked: " Biglorryblog---can you please send me the full list of names of Eddie Stobart truck?" And I tell those people I DON'T HAVE THE FLIPPING LIST SO STOP ASKING ME FOR IT!!!! However, thanks to Robbo I can tell you how to get it. And all you have to do is click through here...

Meanwhile, here are two pictures of the new MAN TGX that recently joined the Stobbie fleet...it's called Lynda Dawn. OK?
