Now here's something you don't see everyday...a heavy haulage movement hauled by a Chinese heavy hauler. And for a pie who can tell me what the truck is. meanwhile Biglorryblog is most grateful to Jeff Lee at Tiandi Heavy Industries, the special types trailer maker, who has supplied the shots....now click through here for more (and as usual they are in 'Expando-Vision)

Abnormal? I'm just glad it's gone by! Yes Dennis Child and his merry men from ROTRAN Multi-axle, the South Africa heavy haulage specialsists have been out having fun on the road again - in this case hauling a 325-ton transformer outside of Melmoth! And I've asked Dennis about the Magnum cab on the Tractomas so with a bit of luck he may be able to shed some light on the subject. Now click through here for more and all the pictures from Dennis are in 'Expando-Vision' click on them to see them BIGGER! However, you may need a wide-screen PC.

From Biglorryblog's resident heavy hitter hauler in South Africa...yes this comes from Dennis Child. "Yesterday 325-ton transformer departing Richards Bay." And it looks like it's got five Tractmoas 8x8s doing all the hard work--and click through here for one more...

Now that's what I call a TEST load! Thinking about it, we could have done with just a couple of those concrete blocks some time ago when Commercial Motor was commissioning its' new 40 and 44-tonne roadtest trailers from SDC and Hill Hire. Two of these would have done the job beautifully! But why is Biglorryblog showing you a trailer covered in concrete blocks? Well it's al to do with heavy haulage in China so click through here to see for yourself!

arrival 5.jpg

It's all been kicking off in Richards Bay in South Africa! The port has seen the arrival of a whole herd of heavy hitters and naturally Biglorryblog's faithful reporter, the man with the camera Dennis Child, has been there to record the event...although he's got a bit of a vested interest in it too---but more of that in a minute...These two (I'd say Fauns) are destined for ALE LASTRA and appear to have gained a smart coat of paint----looks like they've kept their UK number plates though. Sorry Dennis I was probably asleep when you told me about them before (!) but am I right in assuming they've arrived from the UK to start work in SA---or were they there already? Now click through here for more!

tail_gunner_(Large)[1].JPG

Hello... What's this bloke doing? My Nova Scotian snowplough correspondent Mac Mackay proves definitively that he takes pictures from all over the place... He tells me: "Forida has a big demand for precast concrete beams for bridges and highway overpasses. Movement over highways seems to be organized by the truckers with a few guide cars... These good ole boys were moving out a series of beams in April 1998 in Tampa, Florida (sorry it was too hot for my anorak)..." And click through to see the whole thing...

UNIPOWER_ECONOFREIGHT_1[1].jpg

Calling all Unipower fans..this should get the juices flowing. Steve Grainger says: " here are a couple of photos of the Econofreight Unipower/Scammell S24 6x6 'Hercules' This is the same vehicle which transported 'The Angel of the North' to its position overlooking the A1.The escorting police car is a Northumbria Police Ford Mondeo V6......

Roll-out 48460 8x8 Actros 012.jpg

Hello.....what's this coming through the front door of the show-room? Could it be VANGUARD's new 8x8, "Fresh from Germany" Merecedes-Benz TITAN-converted Actros 600hp 4860 heavy hitting having it's very first trot out? And I have Dennis Child at ROTRAN in South Africa to thank for these shots...it sure is a beauty and click through here for more shots of it...

Hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR says 'The Keeper of the Flame' Martin Phippard "....and what a great way to kick off the New Year than with a couple of nice HEAVY haulage pix for BLB in 2010.  The load weighed in at 205-tonnes apparently and took place in Spain. Tractor unit is the famous FAUN HZ 70/80 8x8, one of two purchased from Iberduero by Izquierdo. The other one is now working somewhere in South America I believe.....And for a post-Christmas pie, who knows what the engine is and what it's rated at? Maybe you will be surprised! But it certainly sounds nice I can assure you!" Can't work it out? then click through here for the answer!

massey_ferguson[1].jpg

Peter Dekesel has fired this over to me on the usual biglorryblog@googlemail.com address and says: "Combine transport from Italy to the UK.with a combine from Massey Ferguson on the back.".

Kuebler_Burantransport.jpg

I see the photo competition entries on the website of the super specialist heavy haulage manufacturer Scheuerle http://www.scheuerle.com/ are slowly building up and there's some nice ones on it too including this one--and for a pie what's that on the back (and the front too)? And for a real werid waggon click through here.....

It might be over for you but Bob Tuck is still enjoying his Christmas and he tells Biglorryblog: "Hi Brian, it may have been the last Christmas card to arrive at Low Worsall but as you can see the one we got from Michael Bammel must have been the best! It also came with a request for help to all BLB readers. If you click onto Michael's web site www.heavy-haulage-history.de you will see that he has a great passion about UK heavy haulage in general and Crane trailers in particular. There was a book called 'We Made Trailers,' written about the history of Cranes up to the 1960s but Michael is wanting to follow this up with a second more comprehensive one." Now clikc through here for more...

"I don't know when you intend to put the brakes on BLB," says Martin Phippard, "...albeit temporarily I hope, but just in case you get stuck without material while all and sundry are stuffing their faces with festive fare herewith a rather nice shot of a W J Casey KW 548 heavy hauler toting a generator weighing around 200-tonnes on a 10-line Goldhofer as it leaves a ro-ro ACL vessel."

Dave has now joined the fun and to say: "Hi, I was riding my motorcycle by the electric company when I saw this truck carrying a huge transformer. Never seen one longer. Dave."

And what a strange-looking trailer - click through here for a close-up.

hendrickson up close.jpg

How about this for a real heavy hitter? In the words of the great Benny Hill "I Like 'em BIG!" (And for a pie what film does that come from?). I am grateful to Hobble Along Gary Richards who says: "Hi Brian, now you are all rested up, I just had to send you this collection of Lampson heavy haulers at work - to share some real big jiggers with the BLB fans of all things HUGE! And for monster movers old and new click through here NOW!

Behold Britain's new manned space probe to the Sun! (To the Sun BLB? How are they going to survive the heat? Answer: They're going at night!" yes it's an old joke but worthy of the occasional trot out... Anyroad up "It seems ages since you posted a Scammell on BLB so what about this cracker?" queries Bob Tuck. "Again it's been taken by someone else (sadly it wasn't me) but the Mark 1 Contractor is one of my favourite trucks of all time. And did you know the Contractor came with a two pedal automated style of transmission when they were launched 45 years ago. Ahead of their time or what? Great stuff Bob." Wel there's nothing new under the Sun (or moon) I guess. I remember seeing a piece in Commercial Motor in the mid-50s deascribing the new disc-brake being developed for ERFs!

 IMG_3794_resize.jpg

Hope the bridge takes it skipper! Although saying that it obviously can---otherwise Dennis and his merry men from ROTRAN wouldn't be driving across it with a 325-ton transformer and 6000hp of go-power courtesy of five 8x8 Tractomas monster pullers and a 10x10 Tractomas pusher up the back! ()oh yeas, don't forget the ginormous beam trailer too). And anyway this happened yesterday so I guess we'd have heard if it didn't make it across!

IMG_3811_resize.jpg

Yes it's South African heavy-hitter time again on Biglorryblog and you can see that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to try and go in the opposite direction to Dennis's convoy on this particular corner! Now click through for more...

"Blog Meister," writes that loveable old curmudgeon 'The Boss', "hanging around my favourite watering hole which happens to be next to the yard of this Convoi Exceptional Transporter I managed to get these shots but if you look closely down the pipe as it is being lifted off it would seem to be kinked at the rear. They certainly took a great deal of care settling it in the cradles on the ground, expect one of our blog experts may say whether it was loaded the right way on the trailer or maybe it just got a bit of a bash somewhere along the line? Who Knows?,Certainly long enough particularly as no Convoi Exceptional loads are allowed on French motorways, they have to stick to National roads. The Boss." Not something I knew there..and click through here to see what the old boy is getting at...

IvecoPowerstar.JPG

At first glance this Iveco might look like one of those Dutch-built Strators, but in actual fact what we have here is the real thing - a genuine Australian-built RHD, 550hp PowerStar.
This isn't the first time that this truck has appeared on BLB, because back in June we showed you it sitting outside Irish dealer Jennings Truck Centre.
Since then it has been purchased by Derbyshire-based Scotts Heavy Haulage (who know a thing or two about running decent kit), and is now working hard for a living.
Bryan Scott explains that he fell in love with the PowerStar when he saw one in New Zealand. He then spent a year striking a deal with Jennings, which had imported it with just 7000km on the clock.
Bryan is delighted with the truck, reckons it's better than any Scania T-Cab or Volvo VN, and say the driver thinks it's the 'Dog's b******s'.

PAU 49.jpg
Bob 'Mr Classic' Tuck returns today for the secodn tiem (and always welcome) to send me this picture and to say: "Brian, great to see the recent blogs on the restored Scammell S26 in Econofreight colours. I came across the attached which someone has sent me. Sorry I cannot credit the original snapper but I wish I'd taken it. I also wish I knew where all these motors had gone, But do your BLB readers know what the heck they are? I don't think you'll give away many pies with the right answers! I'm sure the shot was taken down in Lincolnshire somewhere as these PAUs were built down there and hauled by road locally. Great stuff.
Bob."
