Now here's a nice little ute sent to me by one of my regular Biglorryblog readers in Oz... And for the life of me I can't tell you any more as with red-face I've saved the pictures - but not the message that went with it. I know it's at a local Aussie classic show but that's about it. So my apologies to the person who did send them in to. Perhaps you'd been so kind as to provide a comment? (You can put it down to my advancing years)... And for a pie what is it above? Now click through here for a real brain teaser...

Biglorryblog has 'Mr Grumpy' (ace driver) to thank for this little gem... Don't know where he got it from but it's obviously doing the rounds. Or as he calls it 'Today's Inspirational Message'... Which is never p*ss off a man who's handy with a bulldozer and an excavator... And that's yer lot on BLB for today. See you tomorrow! Pour yourself a drink, after today's budget we all need one!

Supertruck095.jpg

Thanks to Yonny Kellerman for tipping me off on the above monster pick-up, produced (as far as I can tell) by a team of customisers in the States located at www.F650supertruck.com and Biglorryblog strongly suggests you pay their site a visit as it's all rather 'awesome'... As hyperboles go.

Supertruck096.jpg

As far as I can make out they take a standard Ford F650 like this one above then go to work on it so you end up with an 'Xtreme' Ford F650 Supertruck... And the ultimate XUV" (whatever that is) complete with a 325hp Cummins engine (which should move things along nicely) six-speed Allison auto, full air suspension and a whole shed-load of goodies---and with five models to choose from you can pretty much get one to suit all tastes---as this selection of shots shows...

supertruck093.jpg

For starters you can order it with seating from 4 to 12 people (just right for parties) and still have a regular pickup bed in the back too... Check out the monster wheels and side tanks with built in steps.

Supertruck01.jpg

Mind you they don't come cheap Xtreme models start at a $94,000 while a XUV will set you back $180,000---still you'll get plenty of admiring glances driving down to the chippie in one! However, some BLB readers will doubtless be saying... 'The world's biggest pickup? I don't think so...Surely this is what you mean..?"

CXTMudFront.jpg

Yes it's the roarty, throbby International CXT monster pickup powered by (as fas as I recall) a similarly-huge Cummins lump and plated at around 7.5 tonnes... Before you tow anything with it. Now click through here for more shots of the CXT.

Look at what you missing not staying in Africa says Dennis Child? And by that he means this monstrously overloaded Mazda pickup (or as they say in South Africa...a Bakkie) ...which clearly has everything on it...including the kitchin sink AND the draining board too!

22012009578.jpg

In reality it barely made it under the filling station canopy too. But I wonder what's under the tarpauline...any guesses?

22012009579.jpg

And away it goes to continue its journey...

22012009581.jpg

Hmmmmm....I wonder if the driver heard a strange rubbing noise..? Now click through here for one more..

Stuart's truck with logs.jpg

How's this for a bit of clever bit of 'thinking outside the box'...literally? When Stuart Smith's mechanically-sound 20-year-old Toyota Hilux workhorse started showing signs of body 'fatigue', he didn't hesitate to buy new wings and cab panels. However, the shock of sky-high prices for new steel panels for the pick-up loadbed put the brakes on any restoration of the faithful pick-up used by his logs-for-fires business, based in rural Warwickshire. But being a resourceful sort of cove, Stuart, who already used trailers in his business, realised that with some careful deck design he could use the dropsides and tailboard from similar trailers and make his own cargo 'tub' for the trusty Toyota. And here you have it....

Stuart's truck with oil drums.jpg

''Once we had designed the combined under-floor structure and floor, and fitted the corner posts, sides and tailboard, it was simply a matter of bolting the new tub on to the chassis and wiring it up," he tells Biglorryblog. What's more one of the advantages of the drop-side cargo tub is that it readily transforms the Hilux pick-up into a more verstile flat-bed/dropside truck. The load capacity is also increased because the tub is 6" wider, slightly longer, and without wheel arches.  However, Stuart reckons the key benefit is that tired or damaged load beds on an otherwise mechanically-sound Hilux pick-up can be replaced at significantly-reduced costs. "Customers get a new, more-practical tub that is galvanised and doesn't need painting," he adds.  ''And we can build the replacement tub in advance on our jigs meaning that fitting and rewiring takes only hours.  So owners need not take their vehicle off the road for more than a day - much less than if new steel tub panels were fitted and painted."

Sound like a good idea...want to learn more?

Just before christmas Cam McFadyen sent me this little selection: "Brian,if you're a bit hard up for something to use over the holidays this isn`t exaxctly a truck story---it's more of a ute story, the smaller relative. Anyway the shot above is one of my Landcruisers---a 100 series 'poverty pack'.The photo was taken beside the lighthouse in Cooktown (the site of the first white fella settlement in Oz) on a recent Sales trip to the north. And yes there is a tilt tray in Cooktown (pop approx 1500),though not one of mine (yet).Anyway I was getting a bit sick of folding myself into one of the 75 series,so this one is now a ute.See ya,Cam."

And here's another of the Cammobile...

PC227579.JPG

Meanwhile Cam has sent me two more shots of another ute he used to (and I quote his very words' "fang about in..." err.....Aussie-to-English translation please anyone?

Dodge1.jpg

Ashley 'The Malteaser' Lovering has sent in these shots of classic Dodge trucks and pickups to Biglorryblog...so for today's 'Pie Quiz' what are they--year and model starting with this purple people eater..!

Dodge2.jpg

Oakly ute.jpg
AktiPete Lynch greets me with his customary cheery: " G'day Brian, here's a couple more classic utes for your Army to enjoy.  That cream one looks rather close to the ground, not your ideal vehicle to run over a wombat in. Cheers Pete." Hmmmm, isn't it illegal run over a wombat in Australia Pete? Or am I confusing that with Koalas...? And for the BLB amry what's the pickup? Now click through here for another classic wizard from Oz..

Ian (AKA Kiwisurf) has e-mailed me to ask if all is well in Blighty (yes thanks and it's not raining Ian so that's a good start). He has also provided me with these excellent shots of Barry Caulfield's International pickup with the four-stroke Detroit Motor, metal flake paint and twin spare wheels mounted of the tray." (That's the body for all us Poms...)

"There's not many around like this in this configuration... " says Ian, "Word has it that when it starts up it is real noisy. Enjoy the pics I will email some more classic pics of the run soon. Ian." If it's classic Kiwi cruisers on offer Ian, Biglorryblog is your man! And love that horn too. Now click through here to prove that it is a Detroit....

Yank ute.jpg

'AtkiPete' Lynch greets me with a cheery: "G'day Brian, though you might like this selection of 'utes'...I did find a German ute, or should that be Utenwagon? There is a Pommie one too and a big Aussie (or maybe American) one as well. Three very different approaches to designing a ute.  Cheers Pete." And what a beauty that Yank tank is...for a pie can anyone tell me what it is?

Pommie ute.jpg

And likewise who can identify this pommie pickup? Now click through here for the German one...

Aussie Inter.jpg

AtkiPete Lynch has sent me this series of great pickup-pictures and he says: "G'day Brian, Aussie are very passionate about their 'utes', indeed, it's said that Ford Australia invented the ute, ( the Coupe ute ) back in the 30's. Here are a bunch of great utes for your BLB blokes to choose from. I haven't got any German or Italian ute photos, did they make utes?  Even the Frenchie isn't really a ute but a quick visit to Big Cam's workshop would fix that. Cheers Pete." So how about a picup a pie quiz by identifying this little lot? (Aussie and Kiwi BLVB readers start with an automatic four faults/get a 10 point penalty for knowing most of them already...)

Best of British.jpg

Now here's something you don't see everyday. So what is it?

Local Ford.jpg

Local product down-under--let's have the make, model and the year...

Yank tank.jpg

What a beauty---a real yank tank as Pete says. Only it needs a front under-run bar given its ground clearance...now click through here for more..
