And here's a right load of old steamers! AtkiPeter Lynch has fired this over to me and says: "G'day Brian, some old time lorries from the Melbourne Steamfest out at Scoresby yesterday. The English were right up there with their steam lorries and these three could well be fronting up for one your Commercial Motor comparison tests. Quite different designs, soon made obsolete by these new fangled petrol and oil engines. A few Aussie Inters and other veterans as well! Cheers Pete." And for a pie who can identify this hissing trio?
Now I'm really confused. Biglorryblog's 'Man in Spain with the kite-marque sombrero' John Ormandy has sent me an e-mail advising me he's added to his Foden 4000 photo gallery and naturally I'm curious to see what's new...and what should I find but this. 'The Pride of Edwin II' shot at the 1998 Truckfest. And why am I confused? Well if you click on the image and watch it grow with 'Expando-Vision' there appears to be an ERF on the side of it! Surely not? So was this air-brushed beauty of a 4000 Series the ultimate heresy....or a final reconcilliation of the clan I wonder John? The trouble is I can't remember which Foden was which. Foden was started by Edwin Foden but then Edwin Richard Foden left to create (or so I think) ERF and (his son?) Dennis Foden was sales manager at ERF....? Perhaps someone can kindly provide BLB with a POTTED (.i.e. not 'War and Peace' please!) History of the Foden/ERF dynasty? And click through here for a shot of our man JO--with the former owner of Foden (no not Edwin silly that would make John 150!)
Last one for Saturday. "G'day Brian," says AtkiPete Lynch. "A few photos from the Tooradin truck show. All sorts here, including a much-modified Kenworth 8x4 that has the axles moved back or the cab moved forward, I am not sure which! I need to get the camera cleaned out as we have Lardner Park show this coming weekend and my 'leave pass' looks even money or better at the moment! Cheers Pete."Well don't forget your Thermos Pete..and click through here for some more strange beasties from down-under!
Gary Richards obviously saw the Biglorryblog post on Pathe News and the old Commercial Motor Show held at Earls Court. "Hi Brian, seeing the recent CMS feature, I thought the army might enjoy the contrast on what was happening in the Colonies at the time...not quite the glamour and glitter but some of the big names were still on display!! Here is what was happening in Western Australia in the early 50's...have a laugh at this!! Gary." And this is from a 1952 truck show in Perth...
"Biglorryblog!" writes '12-speed'. "The collective genius of the Iveco Press Garage have found a web site that, put simply, has just GOT to be visited. Go to www.britishpathe.com and search under 'Commercial Motor Show'....take a good look and tell me I'm wrong but I reckon this will prove another excellent way of wiling away a wet afternoon. Pip Pip! And for some marvellous mystery motor show machines (and not just from the UK) click through here....

Brendan is back on Biglorryblog: "Good-day Brian, In 2006 I fulfilled a long-held dream of mine and took a two week trip to New Zealand. I stayed in hostels and traveled through both the North and South Islands. Of course, most of the trip was scenery... New Zealand is truly a beautiful country. Along the way, I passed a small sign advertising a Truck Show, so I decided to stop by and see what I could see...." And what did he see? Well click through here to find out....

John O is on a roll this morning! Behold some rather nice shots from years gone by at Earls Court (when the West London exhbition centre was the place for the UK CV Show rather than Birmingham---I seem to recall it alternatied with Kelvin Hall). "Hi again Brian," he says. "More of my snaps from the '68 Show - sorry about the quality, I wasn't very well-equipped at the time! [Actually they're fine John]. Incidentally, the Guy Big J 8 was also promoted as being designed for 30 tons GVW & 44 tons GCW - if regulations permit! Same year as the recently-featured Foden S60 6x4 tractor unit - not mid-70s! Regards John O." Well Richard Stanier will certainly like the Guy shot...and click through here for some serious Scammells...

Cameron McFadyen, Biglorryblog's man at South East Queensland Tilt Tray says: "Hi Brian, we went up to Gatton (about 90k`s from Brisbane) today for the opening of the new Transport Museum and Cultural Centre. Gatton is the home of 'Lights on the Hill' a memorial for people in the transport industry that have died whist doing their job. There has been a lot of Government money spent there."
"Bill Baskett was there, he was rounding up a bit of info on our trucks for a bit of commentary, but by the time the pollies got through with their speechs I don`t think he was asked. Anyway, the main thing, there was a good roll up of old gear there, so as they say on TV, wait there`s more." And you can find it by clicking through here....
"G'day Brian," says AtkiPete Lynch. "Just got back from the Lake Goldsmith steam rally which really has to be part of your forthcoming BLB world tour! As usual some great lorries up there, and a couple that will test the knowledge of your Army. But the openign shot is a great lineup of Inters and an R Model Mack..." Now this is what Biglorryblog calls an eye-catching promotion and it's from Ashley 'The Malteaser' Lovering (that's his beloved van on the right) who explains it all thus: "Hi Brian, about 12 weeks ago a friend's father died of cancer. After the funeral my friend said he would like to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Seeing the chance to have an 'undercover' classic show I approached the Leader of Swansea Council borrowed their car park and set about getting exhibitors and sponsors. With everything paid and a full entry list it promises to be a good day for the charity. It is being held at Clarence Terrace car park in
