"Hi mate," says David Hecker from the wonderful www.aussiebigbangers.4t.com website
"There's another Ray Jay movie on YouTube " and here's the link for it which shows yer man talking about his latest restoration project---an unusual resin cab (yes that's right) Mack 700.

So get clicking---as it's a wonderful bit of history and thanks to Dave and Ray Jay for the great walkround..

Well almost last one... Just got this under the wire before she sees me! My thanks to Daniel Andersson in Sweden who says: "Hello! I found this clip on YouTube, Perhaps you've seen it before. It´s a nice clip and has a very nice sounding Scania in a forest in Germany." Well that should please Mr Garlick no end... And it does sound 'throbby and roarty!' Meanwhile Daniel says: "Thank you for a very nice blog, I look at it every day. best regards." Nice to hear you enjoy it Daniel - interesting clip too, as the camera work is pretty steady! The driver seems to be having a bit of fun with the forest track too... (the word means pretty much the same in any language... ) But his reversing is impressive and he gets there in the end--complete with a grateful sigh of relief too... But a nice bit of driving!

Bimbling around YouTube looking for something good to link to I found this rather nice bit of 'practical problem solving' from the proud owner of a cracking Foden 4000 XL--looks like one of the old ex-factory demonstrators but great to see nevertheless. Nice commentary too on how to lift a trailer that's been dropped too low. I don't know who owns the Foden or shot the clip maybe somebody else does...? Now click through here for one more...

'Two-Stroke' write me to say that: "'The Transporter' is on TV tonight FILM 4 with the very interesting and arguably one of the best truck action scenes ever recorded - using two Magnums. The ISO container is slightly modified with its grab rails and ladder, and the scene where Jason Statham goes out of the window and under the truck to end up in the trailer frame tends to miss the bit about how he got around the engine and front axle and across the coupling gap....artistic licence was probably renewed, I don't think you need a CPC to hold that one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmzaDwA7GdA What is useful accessory on a skeletal trailer is to carry a 4 point wheelbrace should you ever find yourself being chased by villains in a Mercedes!---any way escape and enjoy." Now click throgh here for another Maggie link...and yes that's 'The Boss's' Maggie on the right...

Dueltruckfront.jpg

Yikes! It's coming straight at me! My blogging co-evil Ollie Dixon (he of World Trucks Blog on www.roadtransport.com has tipped me off to this site http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_5148-Peterbilt-281-1955.html which allows you to speculate as to what exactly the above truck is.....you'll of course recognise it from the movie 'Duel' (and for a pie when was it released?) as the rather nasty tanker than bullied poor Dennis Weaver....but what was it exactly? Use the link to post your suggestion. Now click through here for more movie memorabilia...

And so to Millbrook test track to attend the Iveco 18m artic demonstration day, put together with Kogel who provided the 14.9m Big-MAXX trailer, and the Freight Transport Association who, along with Iveco, is calling for the DfT to allow on-road UK trials of 18m long artics. As part of the exercise, Iveco's demo driver 'Mr Colmondley-Warner' (Aka Paul Walker) performed a number of manouevring exercises to show how the rig handled including reversing the combination into this 'gate' while yours truly filmed it.(I then had as go when most everyone had b*ggered of to lunch!) With that extra over-hang at the rear the trick is to pull forward sufficiently far enough to get the end tucked in....I eventually got it sorted after nudging the odd cone. Of course the real issue is what's going on around the blind side---with all that extra length beyond the back-bogie the kick-out can take you by surprise. Meanwhile, I'll post up a couple more videos showing it in action before the end of this evening...YouTube permitting.

Good way to start the Biglorryblog day! Rod Simmonds kindly sent me this YouTube link of a Jimmy Barnes music video 'Driving Wheels' trather good though with all the smoke behind him I wonder if he's been using an old Gardner-powered Atkinson as a pop...! Rodders tells me 'It's the Aussie truckers' anthem'. I can believe it. I said to Rod that his voice reminded me of Rod Stewart and Long John Baldry... Though I don't expect him to have heard of LJB! (He's far too young... Though I expect Vic does.)

I'm grateful to Eric Lundekrans who has tipped me off to this Volvo TV YouTube video clip on the Brittany-based transport company TECL which is the first in France to equip its entire fleet with alcolocks---the devices that stop a driver starting up a truck if he has been at the sauce....Eric says: "Hi Biglorryblogger, I saw to my delight that you posted the Volvo video from Norway. Here is another one---this time about alcolocks. Take a look and see if it suits your blog." I did..and it does.

How about this for a bit of custom airbrushing 'down on the farm'? The other day I travelled down to Dorset to meet up with Robert McLean and his son George---whose Scania V8 I recently featured as part of a story about the company's new Andover low loader. While I was chatting with George and Robert it seemed too good an opportunity to waste so I climbed up onto the low loader and shot this short video clip of the airbrushed artwork on the back of the V8! UI'll post up another one shortly showing the front of the truck. The airbrushing was done by Adam Haydon of St Austell while the overall paint job was handled by Haydon Autospray of Radstock (and no they're not related!)

VW Transporter Euro-5.jpg

OK...so it's a rather boring photo of a Euro-5 Volkswagen Transporter van. What's that got to do with you and Biglorryblog? Well obviously it's just a teaser for the next in the fabulous series of video van tests conducted by our 'Man in a Van' Julian Milnes on RTTV which you can see via this link. http://www.roadtransport.com/video So what are you waiting for...? Get clicking! Moreover, JM tells me :"It's been shot by a 'professional crew!" So that's Ian Tonkin then eh Julian?

Time to check out the next in the Julian Milnes/Ian Tonkin YouTube video van test series on www.roadtransport.com. Today it's the latest VW Crafter. take it away Julian!
Think you're a good driver...then take a look at this from 'Volvo TV' on YouTube. It shows Håvard Nesje driving on what is Norway's worst road. Breathe in.....and my thanks go to Eric Lundekrans for tipping me off on this one.

Via Dennis Child in South Africa, general manager of those heavy haulage specialists ROTRAN Multi-Axle, I have been sent this video clip of four of Dennis's heavy hitters in action shot by Cobus Taljaard. Blink and you might just miss the three 8x8s and one 10x10 at the back of the monster beam trailer as they flash by. But by my reckoning this is over 4,000hp of shifting power at work!

Last one for tonight..this YouTube clip looks as if it's been shot on the test hills at the Scania demo centre at Sodertalje and shows what happens when you put your foot down in a V8... Ooh my aching half-shafts! And remember kiddies, don't try this on the Cat and Fiddle...

Connect1.jpg

The 'Terrible Twins' of video roadtests are back again. Yes the RBI Road Transport Group's very own 'Chuckle Brothers' Julian Milnes and Ian Tonkin have produced another spelndid light van video roadtest this time on the Ford Transit Conncet and you can see it by simply clicking on this link http://www.roadtransport.com/StaticPages/video.htm. Meanwhile, Ian tells me: "Brian, here's what the critics are saying about the latest RT video roadtest:

'Wow! They've done it again!' The Telegraph

'I fear for my job. They are just too good' Jeremy Clarkson

'Is it available with subtitles?' The Sun

...And would you mind giving it a punt on the home of all things lorry, BLB?" Well seeing as you ask so nicely Ian... It's a deal. And remember when Hollywood calls I'm on 10%!

The reason why things have been quiet lately on BLB is that I went to the Scania R Series launch on Wedneasday and Thursday and as Ryanair insist that you only carry 10kg of hand baggage that knocked the laptop on the head (and I was also driving too). Anyway..enough excuses just to tease you nefore I do the complete story on the R Series here's a YouTube I shot clip of the new R Series Scania at the company demo centre in Sodertalje and coming round the corner is a 6x4 V8 Highline heavy duty wagon and drag logger...enjoy!

That recently-married (and fellow blogger) young whipper-snapper Will Shiers has sent me this YouTube video link produced by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the US This test was for IIHS's 50th year anniversary and involved a 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air being struck head on by a 2009 Chevvy Malibu. The object being? To see how much safer modern cars are in a collision ! The dummy in the Malibu suffered only minor leg injuries...

Returning to the theme of the recent East Coast Truckers Club charity run for disadvantaged kids on Biglorryblog, Rikki C has kindly forwaded this YouTube video of the event psoetd up by Brendon. Once again outstanding effort guys.

Ryan Casey has very kindly alerted me to some terrific YouTube videos on Cadzow Heavy Haulage including this one that features some Golden Oldie pictures--and for an (aviation) pie what's the plane that's beeing carried by one of the Cadzow trucks? Now click through here for one more...

Sorry, but as we're on the subject of Scania Roadtrains in Oz this YouTube clip shows Yours Truly at the wheel of Paul Hermel's immaculate V8 500 Streamline 3 Series (the first 500 Streamline downunder) as part of the 'world tour' we did with Scania back in 1994....ahh..happy days. Video was shot by Scania's UK PR man 'Mr Laid-back' himself Phil Sampson who had a video camera the size of a small rocket launcher. We ended up eating kangaroo steaks at the Standpipe Motel after visiting Iron Knob. According to the YouTube count it's had over 63,902 views...let's go for 70,000 guys!!!!!
