Czech Out This Mystery Van

I recently took my girlfriend for a romantic weekend break in Prague. You know the kind of thing I’m talking about – sightseeing, museums, cathedrals, candlelit meals and photographing weird looking vehicles from the communist era!

Which brings me neatly onto the question – does anyone have a clue as to what this is?

What is it and why does it have Rover P6 taillights?

I didn’t notice any badges on the van, but then I didn’t spend too long looking for them either on account of being dragged off to see yet another museum!

Who needs trucks? Everyone, that's who.

Just to prove that everybody needs trucks:

Truck Washing South of the Border

Stop at the traffic lights in the UK and there’s every chance that your windscreen will get pounced on by an Eastern European armed with a bucket of water and a squeegee. But in Tijuana, Mexico, it’s not only your windscreen that gets washed while you’re on stop. As ten lanes of traffic slowly move towards the American border so teams of money-hungry hopefuls wash entire vehicles in the hope of receiving a bit of loose change.

But I bet the owner of this unusual "zonkey" wouldn’t be too happy if someone tried to wash it. I have a feeling that it wouldn’t be such a hit with the tourists after a good bath.

Last Foden truck sold by Pelican Engineering

It's the end of an era as Foden's longest serving truck dealership Pelican Engineering has supplied its last ever Foden to M&B Haulage and Waste Paper Ltd. This 6x4 hook lift vehicle has been fitted with a Cummins 420hp engine and ZF ASTronic gearbox. Foden's parent Paccar announced last year it was closing the once famous brand and with the Euro-4 deadline now upon us time's up for Foden. If you've got any Foden pictures to share (new or old), let us have them...

JCB 2007 calendar

Not satisfied with its land speed record record success, Britain's favourite earth mover has revealed its 2007 calendar, featuring an array of yellow painted ladies.

We'll leave JCB to tell the story in its own words.

Identify this truck to win a copy of my book

My book Roadside Relics – America's Abandoned Automobiles is on sale now, and following my interview on Radio 4’s Front Row, seems to be selling quite well.
So much so that Amazon.co.uk has sold out and won’t be getting any more until after Christmas. But not all is lost because in an attempt to give the book yet another shameless plug I’m prepared to give away a free copy.

Bike rides, by Kevin Swallow

An innocent conversation about completing the Coast-to-Coast with Alex Wright of Manheim Auctions at the 2007 CV Show has brought me to this, training hard to ensure the 110 mile charity cycle ride of the second stage of the Tour de France doesn't end in tears.

Some cyclists recently...

Despite my best efforts [I haven't got a bike, the time or the body, I left it on the bus, my dog ate it...] he has countered me at every corner. He lent me a bike, put me in touch with fellow Manheim stalwart Dave Anthony, and sent constantly reminders of 'how is training going?' or 'do you like the bike?' and 'should I send the lads round to help with motivation?'
