Today (23 October) at Newport Crown Court, 53-year old HGV driver Russell Carter from Cardiff was jailed for life for murder and three counts of attempted murder. He brutally beat and strangled his 45-year old boss to death at the Driverline247 premises in Pontypool, and doused three other employees in petrol before setting the offices alight.
Twisted, sick, barbaric and upsetting this case certainly is.. but it has emerged that Carter (who has US/British citizenship) already had two armed robbery convictions in the US, so why I question, was he free to murder?
The dispute was over £3,000 Carter claimed he was owed by the firm. In my previous job (retail) lets just say there were a few issues with my boss... wages not always paid on time, arguments over holiday pay and just a sombre mood felt by all staff there. I confess there was a desire to throttle the boss in question, but it was never more than a fantasy. In a dramatic comparison, because Carter felt he was hard-done by (aren't we all at times,) he murdered 45-year old Kingsley Monk and put three others through a terrifying ordeal.
Judge Nicholas Cooke QC says: "These crimes were acts of callous wickedness, cruelty and inhumanity which beggar belief. You were prepared to kill- then burn to cover your tracks."
I am deeply saddened by this case and find it highly concerning that the murderer's criminal background did not come to light until this trial began.
Have you heard of workers being pushed over the edge? What are your thoughts on the sentence? Any thoughts I want to hear...

I was pushed over the edge this morning when a British Rail pleb made me pay another train fare because my Oyster card failed to work. Russell would have come in quite handy then.
I am sure we have all had problems with the boss from time to time but this case highlights more serious matters.
How was a convicted armed robber able to hide this conviction to the driver agency that employed him, and so also to any companies that they would subsequently have hired him out to?

Many years ago I employed a driver who two months later came to me and explained that he had served 10 years for manslaughter!!
I continued to employ him, however that day I changed our recruitment procedure to include investigating any criminal background.
This can only be done with the compliance of the applicant, if they don’t give permission naturally you don’t employ them.
If this simple procedure had been in place it MAY have prevented this tragedy.

I think you're not allowed to use these services to lookup records of any celebrities, but has anyone tried it?? might be interesting!
Hello, I thought I would drop you a line and inform you that your web site layout is really screwed up on the Firefox browser. Seems to work OK in Internet Explorer though. Anyways keep up the good work.
A good background check service is darn near impossible to find.
