With Will having purchased his Postman Pat mobile and Colin having shotgunned the Ford Transit I had to look at some alternatives for my Desperate Van Challenge entry.
Having looked through many classifieds and countless websites, it was clear that the best way of getting a van with an MOT was on ebay. Of course there is always the risk of - what if it's complete rubbish - but that's a risk I felt I had to take. Being half German myself, I wanted to buy an efficient and trustworthy van from the land of Sauerkraut and Lederhosen. Yet quality has its price. It was almost like the VWs and Mercs were shouting at me for putting in a bid under £1,000.
It was clear I had to make a descision which not may vehicle enthusiasts like to make - I had to buy a Frenchy.
I found 2 rather smart looking Renaults on ebay for around £300 with 2 days bidding left. Brilliant! - Or maybe not! The auctions ended at around £900.
After much frustration and searching I finally came upon this beauty.

You're probably thinking; why the hell would he buy that? Quite simple - it has a years MOT!!! I placed my maximum bid of £600 and let the clever clogs at ebay do the rest.
Due to an eventful beer fuelled Six Nations weekend I forgot all about the van, until on Monday morning I found out I had won it with a final bid of £510. Not bad for a 3.5 tonne vehicle with an MOT.
The only downside was that the van was based in Sandwich, Kent (right by the sea) and I only had time in the evening to pick it up.
So far so good??!! Read all about the eventful trip to Sandwich in the next blog - C'est la vie!

That van looks a lot nicer and safer than the transport we are currently using here in Vietnam!
