Scammell Contractor advert - Will's Roadtransport Revival

LoScammell.JPG

This Scammell Contractor advert dates back to 1967, to a day when Britain still had a proper truck industry. And what a magnificent machine it was too – at least according to the advertisement anyway.
Unfortunately I have never been lucky enough as to drive one, but would be keen to hear from someone who has. I am particularly interested to learn whether or not it really was “as easy to handle as a car”. I’m guessing not. Also interested to know whether the cab really was as comfortable as the advert makes out with all the equipment you could need.
And if you want to see some Scammell heavy haulage action, then you might want to check out this video.

Richard Stanier says: "Great motor - Im afraid I have never driven one either, but since the cab is derived from the old LAD untit, I doubt it was too great. As for handling like a car - well if your car had a 14 litre Cummins and a 15 speed Fuller crash box, you probably would have felt right at home."

Eddie Parker says: "Having driven both Contractor and Super Contractor, I can categorically deny that they are "as easy to handle as a car" - maybe a locomtoive though!!!
(and car drivers dont tend to argue with you!)

Chris Gardner says: "LAD cab - just what you need for a 3-man heavy haulage crew.... provided they're very close friends!"

Simon Howard says: "I now own the Contractor featured on u tube, and i can truly say its nothing like driving a car. One good thing is how people give way to you, including buses."
