Getting wired in the 70s - Will's Roadtransport Revival

elecLo.JPG

By the time you read this I’ll be on my way to Anaheim, California, where I am covering the EVS – which I think stands for electric vehicle show. So I thought it was only right that I should dig out an old electric vehicle from the archives – just as a reminder of quite how far things have moved on in the past few decades.
And here’s the perfect example of how crap things were in the early 1970s – the Redditch-built Eccles Workmaster. This battery-powered ‘truck’, which looked scarily like a cut-down AC Invicar, was capable of travelling 20 miles at a frightening 7.5mph. Impressive huh? Compare this with the Smith Edison 3.5-tonner, which will cover 100 miles and do 50mph.
