Scammell Routeman tanker - Will's Roadtransport Revival

scammel.JPG

The big news from British Leyland in August 1971 was the arrival of the tandem-drive, twin-steer Scammell Routeman 3 - which was designed and plated at 26 tonnes. This beautiful truck used the Leyland P680 engine, giving 7hp per tonne. It was coupled to a six-speed constant mesh 'box.
The advert proclaims that it looks great as a tanker, and I have to agree. In fact, in my opinion the Scammell Routeman was one of the best-looking British trucks of all time.
While I'm no advertising guru, I think I'm right in saying that a bit more thought could have gone into the choice of number plate. The letters 'J', 'U', 'N' and 'K' don't necessarily give the right impression!
