Look at this terrible picture that my five-year-old nephew drew for me.
He reckons it’s a van, but personally I can’t quite see it.
He says he wants to be a vehicle designer when he’s older, but I’ve told him not to bother. I explained that in the real world vans aren’t shaped like loaves of bread, they don’t have ridiculous-looking flaps at the rear, and wheels need to be perfectly round. As for his colouring-in skills, the less said about that the better!
OK, that’s all complete bollox! Incredibly, what you are looking at here is the original sketch of the Volkswagen T1 Transporter van – which was penned by Dutchman Ben Pon in 1947. How he was ever taken seriously, and how this child-like scribbling ever evolved into the most successful van ever built is a complete mystery.
