Citroen's new Dispatch has improved traction for off-road action, just don't get carried away

Citroen has launched a modified version of its Dispatch van, designed for occasional off-road work. Badged XTR+ it's aimed at utility companies, agricultural organisations and contract killers who need to reach those less than accessible points down country paths and the like.

Assisted by a reinforced traction limited skip differential that transfers up to 75% of torque between the front wheels, it allows for extra grip when things get tricky.

However those looking for serious off-road ability may want to look elsewhere, this is no Land Rover after all. What it does offer is a cheap alternative to four-wheel-drive, complete with less weight and less to go wrong - and if the previous Berlingo version is anything to go by, which displayed surprising amount up traction when pushed, it should perform efficiently enough in most environments.

Its off-road credentials are further bolstered by heavy duty suspension, revised steering geometry, underbody protection and Michelin Agilis snow and ice tyres.

The Dispatch XTR+ comes complete with a 1,200kg payload and is priced at £17,445
