CAT-NAVZ.PK - Collateral Damage Part 1

Here’s an elegant solution as to the what to do with MaxxForce conundrum that may – and we stress may – be exercising certain minds – and, we suspect, legal minds at that - in Munich.

How about we put an MAN engine into VW’s Constellation? The latter is marketed currently both in Latin America and South Africa, and derives its power either from Cummins or – and this we particularly like – MWM International Motores, a subsidiary of Navistar. This news is due to publish in Handelsblatt on Friday, and, whilst no doubt likely to achieve denials all round, certainly ranks as a nice way of telling the Warrenville gang where to get off in terms of any potential dalliance with CAT.

And, in another first, this would appear to be the first bit of logic to come out of the entire VW-Scania-MAN fiasco. Of course, it renders any Scania part of this merger even more nonsensical, but as a way of offering Dan Ustian a very Bavarian finger, we must applaud the suggestion for its elegance.

Old news. I read a couple weeks ago that MAN was supplying an engine for the Constellation. And the engine was coming via Navistar!

Old News part 2. It was reported on Trucktalk.com.au, on 7 Jan 08, that the VW Constellation would use the "10 and 13 litre engines sourced via Navistar from MAN".
