VW Bags Scania. What Next for MAN?

Navistar. That's what we think
What would VW do with two truck companies? Are the scale benefits so great as to mean that FP will continue to try and bring MAN and Scania together? Can't see it.

Navistar now has access to CAT's pockets, and could well take a look at VW's stake in MAN. And with VW apparently still considering a LCV launch in North America, we can see a rather tidy deal here. Navistar gets a decent sized lump of MAN, VW gets support for its van range within the US.

"Navistar has access to CAT's pockets", REALLY! I'll bet that's a suprise to CAT. As to Navistar acquiring VW's 29.9% of MAN, good luck with that! NAV has serious debt problems with it all coming due in 2012. They have to hope the new tie-up with GM medium-duty trucks and their regular sales are generating some really positive cash-flow by then or they could be in trouble. I doubt the new CAT line of trucks will be much help by that time - too soon.
Would it be great for Navistar and MAN to hook up? You bet! Will it happen? Don't hold your breath.
