Ashok Goes to 35 Tonnes. Market Goes to the Dogs. Volvo Arrives Just in Time.

Ashok Leyland has launched a 35 tonne rated tractor unit to its range.

We would imagine that this is in order to capitalise upon the gradual shift away from light and medium duty and towards the heavy end of the weight spectrum that we've been witnessing in India for some time now, a shift that has come about as a result of a marked toughening of vehicle weight legislation, and, more to the point, its application.

But, according to this report, things aren't quite as sweet as they might be for Ashok Leyland at present. Then again, things don't look particularly stellar for any of the participants in the Indian market at present. Perfect timing therefore, for Volvo, and the announcement that it has finally completed its Indian JV. Goodbye Eicher Motors, hello VE Commercial Vehicles.
